Martinez charged out from the opening bell winging wide power punches. A left hand caught Romero against the ropes midway through the first round and had him in some trouble.

Romero came out in the second and wanted to box and move, but was unable to keep the Spaniard at bay. Martinez repeatedly snapped back the head of the champion with power punches.

A clash of heads opened a sizable cut to Romero's left eye in the fourth.

The end came in the sixth round, when a series of shots hurt Romero and wobbled him. Martinez landed a combination to the head with Romero trapped in a corner and the referee stepped in and waved an end to the bout with the champion bloodied and badly staggered.

Father time will eventually catch up with Floyd Mayweather Jr., but it may very well be long after he has retired.

In the main event of Showtime's pay-per-view card at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, the 36-year-old Mayweather Jr. proved yet again that his skills are indeed intact and his place atop the world's pound-for-pound rankings is valid, as he cruised to his 44th win against an outmatched but game Robert Guerrero (31-1-1).

The champion was simply too quick defensively and too fast-handed, as round after round Mayweather stuck Guerrero with lead right hands and left the Californian missing and with little opportunity to build any momentum.

"That's why he's undefeated." Guerrero said. "He was a little better than I thought.He was barely slipping away from the punches. I thought I'd catch him."

The eighth round was the strongest for Mayweather Jr. Midway through a punch opened a cut above his opponent's left eye and by the end of the round, Guerrero was clearly hurt and bloodied.

Much of the same continued for the remainder of the bout, with Guerrero pressing forward, but being caught with clean punches while being unable to land. He showed a good chin and had some opportunities, but never could connect with the big punch and Mayweather usually tied him up on the inside.

Mayweather Jr. (44-0) apologized to the crowd after the fight for being unable to deliver the knockout he had hoped for, but revealed a swollen right hand that he said he injured midway through the fight. The injury, he said, forced him to box more in the second half rather than go for a knockout.

Timothy Bradley came into the fight with something to prove, and for two rounds it appeared it would cost him dearly.

A boxer, Bradley is not known to be a one-punch-knockout fighter, but opted to stand toe-to-toe with challenger Ruslan Provodnikov (22-1) for the first six minutes and was in danger of being stopped. The champion, who was staggered numerous times during the fight and was forced to take a knee in the final seconds of round twelve, did enough in the judges' eyes, however, to maintain his WBO welterweight title and push his record to 30-0. Timothy Bradley came into the fight with something to prove, and for two rounds it appeared it would cost him dearly.

A boxer, Bradley is not known to be a one-punch-knockout fighter, but opted to stand toe-to-toe with challenger Ruslan Provodnikov (22-1) for the first six minutes and was in danger of being stopped. The champion, who was staggered numerous times during the fight and was forced to take a knee in the final seconds of round twelve, did enough in the judges' eyes, however, to maintain his WBO welterweight title and push his record to 30-0. The fight, a credit to the sport, was well summed up by promoter Bob Arum who acknowledged "Tonight there's no losers."

A straight right hand badly staggered Bradley in the opening round and seconds later he fell forward and went down from what was ruled to be a slip. In just his sixteenth professional bout, underdog and late replacement Evgeny Gradovich dethroned [[IBF]] featherweight champion Billy Dib in the main event of ESPN's Friday Night Fights in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

The champion Dib (35-1) looked to move and land, while Gradovich, nicknamed "The Mexican Russian" for his aggressive style, came forward throughout and connected with bigger shots.

The physical scrap saw each man warned in the third round to clean up the action after head clashes, elbows, and hitting on the break. By the end of the round, Dib was bleeding from the nose and had developed swelling above his left eye.

A left hand in the fourth caught Dib off balance and sent him stumbling backward. Also in the fourth a cut opened the left side of Dib's head, above the ear, from what the referee rules and unintentional elbow.

In Round 8, both men were deducted a point for holding.

By the end of the bout, Dib was bleeding heavily from a cut above his right eye, while Gradovich's face was marked up and he had swelling to his left cheek. Referee [[Eddie Claudio]], who was was forced to separate the fighters often, was covered with blood following the twelfth round.

Adrien Broner defended his WBC lightweight title and cruised against a spirited but outgunned Gavin Rees in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

A single right uppercut put Rees on his back 55 seconds into Round 4. Rees was up at the count of five. Broner continued to pound away for the remainder of the round and, prior to the start of the fifth, Rees's trainer Gary Lockett suggested that they should stop the fight.

A left hand to the body in the final minute of Round 5 drew a grimace from Rees and sent him to a knee. Broner closed the round peppering Rees against the ropes, causing Lockett to come up on the ring apron and wave the towel.

Lucas Matthysse gave credence to the idea that he is among most avoided fighters in the world.

In the main event of Showtime's televised boxing card in Las Vegas, Nevada, Matthysse (32-2) took little time in dispatching hefty underdog Mike Dallas Jr. (19-2-1).

In the final minute of the opening round, the Argentinian connected with a sudden and short, counter right hook that knocked Dallas Jr. out immediately and sent him crashing face-first to the mat. Veteran referee Robert Byrd began counting, but stopped short and waved an end to the bout with Dallas Jr. lying motionless.

Mikey Garcia dropped Orlando Salido four times and claimed the WBO Featherweight Title when a headbutt broke Garcia's nose and caused the fight to go the judges' scorecards.

Salido went down midway through the opening round from a left hook. Another left hook put Salido down on his backside for the second time with just seconds remaining in the round. A right uppercut caused the champion's glove to touch the mat in Round 3 and in the fourth, a jab caught him off balance and put him down again.

By the end of the fifth round, Salido had significant swelling to his right eye, but to his credit, he continued to press forward take punches and throw his wide power shots.

In the eighth, Salido's head hit Garcia across the bridge of the nose and in between rounds the fight was ended at the recommendation of the ringside physician.
