Well over 4000 people were in attendance. Only heavyweights were allowed to fight on this night just like on September 21 1955. The fight was originally sheduled for Baker vs Marciano. Jackson won by the slimmest of scores. If Baker had won the final round, the bout would have been a draw. This fight ended Baker's 13 consecutive winning streak. Jackson scored an upset by taking an unpopular split decision from Baker (45-5), who was the only logical contender left for Rocky Marciano's heavyweight title, from April 1955 to February 1956. At the time, Archie Moore was returned to the rankings as light heavyweight champ by the [[NBA]], however ''The Ring'' magazine still considered him the light-heavyweight champ.

The bout was broadcast live on national coast-to-coast TV and radio.

'''Bob Baker''' made the final of the New York Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions in 1948, with the decision being awarded to [[Coley Wallace]]. On March 9, 1949, Baker won the New York Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions at heavyweight by eliminating Coley Wallace in the semi-final by decision and on March 10, 1949 he won the final of that tournament vs. [[Van Curry]]* , by decision.
On March 28 1949 at [[Madison Square Garden]] representing New York, he won the Intercity Golden Gloves' championship vs. [[Desry Sykes]], representing Chicago at heavyweight.

==Professional Career==
Baker was a leading contender from 1954 through 1956, he had the better of Coley Wallace as a professional, winning both bouts in 1954, some of his more credible accomplishments may have been a victory vs. future Hall-of-Famer [[Jimmy Bivins]] and his two victories against contender [[Nino Valdes]]. On September 9 1957, in a later portion of his career, Baker won a unanimous decision from future Canadian heavyweight champion [[George Chuvalo]]. After 1957, Baker's popularity slowly diminished and after doing some exhibitions he retired in 1960.
