*See also: Rocky Marciano vs. Ted Lowry (2nd meeting)

Michael J. Thomas of the Providence Journal wrote, "Marciano did not win the fight. This reporter gave it to Lowry, six rounds to four.”

The crowd of 3,696 booed the decision and some wondered if Lowry had thrown the fight. "There were some questions as to whether Lowry, who had come close to knocking out Marciano in the second, third and fourth rounds, deliberately bogged down in his attack after the fourth stanza," Thomas wrote. "Lowry stopped using his uppercut after the fourth. He went into a shell and only occasionally landed power shots. He seemed to be carrying Marciano."

In his book Rocky Marciano: The Rock of His Times, Russell Sullivan wrote the following:
:"It was Lowry, not Marciano, who was on the verge of scoring an early knockout, stinging Marciano with two terrific rights in the first round and then rocking him with two mighty uppercuts in the second. By the fourth, a staggered Marciano seemed just one punch away from being knocked out. But then, inexplicably, Lowry stopped fighting and retreated into a shell despite warnings from the referee to open up and a cascade of boos from the crowd. To many, it appeared that Lowry was deliberately carrying Marciano. Was foul play afoot? Was Lowry getting paid to lose? Or was he merely tiring? Whatever the reason, a revived Marciano managed to rally in the late rounds even though many of his punches missed their mark or lacked force. On the basis of his aggressiveness and constant punching, Marciano won a unanimous decision from the judges. Most observers felt, however, that Lowry should have won."

Lowry, who earned $2,500 for the fight, denied he threw the fight. "I beat Rocky that night and that’s it," he said. "He changed his strategy in the fifth round and made a fight of it, but I won two of the last six rounds after winning the first four. It was a hometown decision."

In contradiction the January 1950 edition of Ring Magazine wrote the following:

"The 10th of the month brought one of the greatest heavyweight prospects in the country back to Providence as Rocky Marciano, the Brockton Bombshell, took on Tiger Ted Lowry of New Haven. Lowry was not interested in winning the fight. He wanted to go the route and that is what he did by hanging on and staying close all the way. He tagged Marciano with several right-hand uppercuts, but they didn’t slow down the big guy from Brockton. By actual count, Marciano landed better than 750 punches to the body over the ten-round course as he won a unanimous decision. Rocky suffered a cut eye in the fight."
Stamford "Kid" Harris had a traditional stand-up style, but looped his punches when going for the knockout. When matched with top-rated contenders Jerry Quarry, George Chuvalo, and Jose Manuel Urtain, Harris was knocked out against each boxer. Harris was short and thick set, footage of him fighting Jerry Quarry showed Harris several inches shorter than the 6'0" Quarry. He was described as being a 'Joe Frazier' lookalike in terms of build, Harris was wrongly listed as 6'5" on records but this was clearly incorrect and 5'9" is much more accurate.

Harris scored an upset victory over Canadian light heavyweight champion Leslie Borden, and in his final fight, Harris knocked out prospect Doug Kirk in 2 rounds. Harris was shot and killed in a bar-brawl in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1975.

Although Harris was still fighting as an amateur in the summer of 1962, his published record contains several pro fights held before that year. Some may be misdated bouts, but it's more likely these bouts were added to make Harris appear more experienced than he really was. He was refused a licence so he went to the USA and had four fights which he won all by stoppage (only three shown on boxrec). He then said he went to Denmark as a sparring partner but it didn't work out. He quit boxing as he had a partner and baby. He went on to train fighters.
*On Thursday, June 12, 2014, New York State Supreme Court justice Jeffrey Oing refused manager Humberto Romero's request to stop Algieri's WBO World Welterweight title challenge against Ruslan Provodnikov at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Saturday June 14, 2014. Romero claimed the fight had to be stopped as Algieri broke his contract and owed manager's fees of nearly a million dollars for working with him the past three years. In addition, Romero claimed he was entitled to 16 percent of all of Algieri’s boxing purses as per the terms of his managerial contract with him, including 16 percent of the $250,000 purse for fighting Provodnikov on HBO, plus 20 percent of all endorsements, business deals and personal appearances. Algieri's court papers answered Algieri broke contract with Romero because he felt his manager was not doing enough to promote him. Algieri's contract with Romero was subsequently ruled void by the New York State Athletic Commission. The judge stated Romero should have timely gone to court a year earlier when Algieri fought two matches. == New York State Supreme Court Rules in Algieri's Favor in Managerial Dispute ==
*Foreman pushed, laced, hit on the break and almost broke Young’s left arm in one of the clinches. Foreman had a point deducted in the 3rd round for what the referee called "unnecessary roughing."
*Foreman hurt Young with a left hook in the 7th round. Young later said, "George did not know it, but while I may have been standing, I was out cold. He could have pushed me over with his little finger. How I survived that round I will never know."
*Round 12 was named The Ring Round of the Year for 1977.
*In his dressing room after the fight, Foreman told his trainer, Gil Clancy, that as he left the ring, he was plunged into despair. He thought he had died, and a giant hand was carrying him out of the emptiness surrounding him. He then said his head and hands were bleeding, and he began to yell, “Jesus Christ is coming alive in me.” With that, Foreman jumped into the shower before Clancy and the others in the room could stop him. As the water poured down on him, Foreman began to shout, “Hallelujah, I’m clean! Hallelujah, I’ve been born again!” Clancy later said, “It was hot as hell in the ring. He was hallucinating from dehydration.” Foreman, who believed he had a real religious experience, retired from boxing and became an ordained minister. Ten years later, Foreman returned to boxing at the age of 38.
*It was reported in the Times Daily that Foreman got $80,000 and Young got $60,000

Harris scored an upset victory over Canadian light heavyweight champion Leslie Borden, and in his final fight, Harris knocked out prospect Doug Kirk in 2 rounds. Harris was shot and killed in a bar-brawl in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1975.
