* Data Boxing Stats: Blows- Tillis 147/396 37%, Tyson 103/282 37%; Controls- Tillis 89, 32 of which were circling and dancing, 41 were clinches, Tyson 83, 17 were moving in and attacking, 13 of which occured in rounds 1 to 3, and 32 were moving close. Tyson was in full attack in rounds one and two. After that he began to move close, but often did not fire enough blows. He scored a flash knockdown in round four against a lunging Tillis, winning a round he was outscored in. In rounds six through ten, Tyson was out thrown and out scored, though he did score a cut over Tillis' left eye in round seven. He won by hitting harder, but not by dominating the bout.

In a televised battle between unbeaten light welterweight prospects, a bearded Brad Solomon won a unanimous decision over 'the other' Ray Robinson. While Robinson had a tremendous reach advantage, Solomon proved hard to hit, and Robinson threw a great deal of punches that missed the target. Solomon, on the other hand, threw less but landed more, and appeared to win nearly every round by landing overhand rights and power shots frequently. An accidental clash of heads in round 4 opened up a nasty bloody cut over the right of Robinson, whose corner did a nice job the rest of the bout handling the cut. Robinson down from a slip in round 5. After round five the bout turned into a ugly inside war in center ring, with Solomon clocking Robinson often with overhand right hooks. One judge saw the bout a draw, lending to the possibility that two judges were influenced by the cut and blood, but one was not, however the bout did not appear close. Rough scrap. Referee: Sparkle Lee.

Yonnhy Perez, a Columbian fighting out of Santa Fe Springs, California, won the IBF Bantamweight title with a unanimous 12 round decision over defending champion Joseph 'King Kong' Agbeko, a Ghanian now out of Bronx, New York, making his third defense. Perez, 20-0, 14 kos, was landing more jabs and appeared slightly ahead of Agbeko, now 27-2, 22 kos, going into round ten, but the Vegas fight was still close to that point. In round ten, Agbeko complained to the referee about a headbutt from Perez that appeared accidental. Perez landed a left hook on Agbeko while Agbeko was engaged with the referee. The referee admitted later that he didn't see whether Agbeko was knocked down from a punch or another headbutt, and because he didn't know which one was the case, he counted Agbeko as going down from a knockdown. The knockdown proved to be the difference in the bout, as Perez kept up his momentum and won two of the last three rounds on the scorecards, winning the bout and IBF title. After the bout, ex-champ Agbeko stated "He (Perez) headbutted me in round ten, and I didn't think it was fair."

In an exciting Showtime fight which appeared as if it could go either way on the scorecards, Carl Froch remained unbeaten at 26-0 and retained his WBC Super Middleweight title by split decision over American challenger Andre Dirrell. Froch chased the southpaw Dirrell all night, and threw many punches 'into the wind' as the agile Dirrell constantly moved from side to side and slipped the majority of Froch's punches. Froch moved forward for all 12 rounds as the aggressor throwing many combinations, while Dirrell counterpunched extremely well and landed a number of powerful right hand leads. One point of controversy was that Froch frequently hit Dirrell behind the head, and was warned but not penalized by the referee. Dirrell was warned in the seventh, eighth and tenth; then the referee decided to take a point away from him for holding. In round 12, Dirrell was warned by the referee for hitting Froch behind the head, when in fact it was Froch that had hit just hit Dirrell behind the head! Without the point deduction, the bout would have been closer. Most of these rounds were quiet defensive gems, causing the crowd to boo the lack of action at the end of every round. At the end of round 11, Dirrell's grandfather told him in his corner "You better knock Froch out because they ain't never gonna give us a decision here." But the hometown crowd was quiet during rounds, so scoring appeared fair. In the post fight Showtime interview, the previously unbeaten Dirrell conceded he lost round 12, but looked forward to fighting Arthur Abraham.

*Main event of the card titled "Hook City".
*Jones Jr. entered as the # 6 light heavyweight in the world according to The Ring Magazine. Lacy, a 3.5-1 underdog, was unranked by the same publication.
*The fight was delayed approximately 30 minutes as a result of a dispute over the gloves. Lacy refused to use Grant gloves and insisted on using Everlast gloves. While Jones Jr. answered back that the contract called for the use of Grant gloves, he ultimately relented and agreed to the use of Everlast gloves.
*During the first few rounds, Lacy attempted to pressure Jones Jr., constantly taking the fight to the ropes. However, Jones Jr. got the better of the in-fighting, often doubling and trippling up on left hooks to the body and head.
*A left hook to the head caused a gash in the corner of Lacy's right eye in round 3.
*With Lacy seemingly having no chance to win the fight and both his eyes being almost completely closed, his corner decided to stop the fight after round 10.
*By the end Lacy suffered cuts on each eye, puffs under each eye, and a bloody mouth.
*Data Boxing Stats: Blows- Jones 249/500 50%, Lacy 104/429 24%. Controls- Lacy 71, mostly bearing in; Jones 65, tying up and using his multiple skills. In a moderate 108 Events Per Round (Attempts + Controls), Jones had a 53 to 47% edge.
Summary
Unbeaten Floridian Tavoris Cloud pitched a shutout, landing left hooks and right hand power shots all night, giving Mexico's former WBO Light Heavyweight champion Julio Cesar Gonzalez a consistent beating all night (despite being taken past the fifth round for the first time in his career). Gonzalez' granite jaw was in evidence as he absorbed hellacious shots from Cloud in rounds five and six. At 2:50 of round ten, with Cloud landing unanswered right hand leads and Gonzalez absorbing unanswered punishment on the ropes, the referee had seen enough and waved the bout off. Gonzalez had suffered a cut and a puff under his left eye, from round five on. The technical knockout victory made Cloud the first Tallahassee native to attain a No. 1 world ranking and become the mandatory challenger for the IBF world championship in the Light Heavyweight division. It was the first time that Gonzalez had been stopped.

Summary
In an exciting heavyweight bout that could have gone either way by the scorecards, three time world champion James Toney won the IBA and WBO NABO Heavyweight Titles by a 12 round split decision over former heavyweight title challenger Fres Oquendo. Toney spent the entire bout setting a slow pace, throwing power punches, while Oquendo spent the bout landing frequent jabs, making the bout close and hard to score. Toney staggered Oquendo with a left hook early in round one, and appeared to win the first three rounds. Oquendo appeared to get the best of rounds 4 through 7, but the rounds were close. Toney appeared to win rounds 8 and 9, while round 10 was even. Oquendo clearly won 11( 22-6 blows) and 12( 32 to 11 blows). However, Oquendo spent the entire bout hitting Toney with right hooks off the break, and hitting Toney behind the head when Toney was bent over. In what must be the most bizarre moment in professional boxing in 2008, in round 4, Oquendo pushed Toney towards the ring ropes during a clinch, and Toney slipped on one of the mat advertisements on the ring floor and rolled out of the ring! He immediately climbed back into the ring uninjured and the action resumed. After warnings, Referee Dr. Lou Moret finally took a point away from Oquendo in round 8 for rabbit punching. The one point penalty proved costly, as it not only cost Oquendo a round he was winning, but ultimately cost him the fight. Toney fought a clean bout. As the scores were announced, Toney knelt in his corner in prayer for 'one more chance' at the heavyweight title.
* Versus blows report: Oquendo 222/740 30%, Toney 154/491 31%.
* Versus announcers and on-line voting both had Oquendo winning by two points.
Dear Sweetscientist, just wondering why you keep adding the names and records of the fighters in the "notes" section of the wiki. Whenever the fight code is inserted, it automatically creates the link to each fighters' page in the encyclopedia at the top of the page. It seems duplicative to add the following for example (in the wiki for Librado Andrade vs. Vitali Tsypko):

* Librado Andrade (27-2) 21 KOs vs. Vitali Tsypko (22-2) 12 KOs
