'''Trainer:''' Champ Chaney
Ron Kern began boxing at the Indianapolis PAL Club with legenday coach Colin "Champ" Chaney. He turned professional after his best friend, former professional Clyde "Rocky" Mudgett, was murdered in St. Paul Minnesota. Mudgett gave Kern his old pair of boxing trunks, and Kern wore them in every one of his pro bouts.
For many years Kern ran a successful amateur boxing program in his hometown of Martinsville, Indiana.
Currently Kern operates a construction company out of Bedford, Indiana and promotes professional boxing around Indiana.
