Cobia, 2-3 with one no contest and one no decision, has fought much tougher opposition than the 6 foot 9 inch Visser, 4-0 with one no decision, who has won all his bouts via KO. “Gary dominated. He couldn't miss,” said his trainer, Ryan Gregory, of Logan. According to Gregory, the no decision occurred after Visser pushed Gary over the top rope, bent him backwards over the ropes and onto the judges table.

Gary Cobia started amateur boxing late in the game he was 29 when he had his first match. He started boxing in Pocatello, Idaho, where he grew up. He attended the Gate City boxing Club. Gary finished his amateur career in Utah. He boxed under the direction of Bob Lopez in Ogden Utah at the Marshall White Center. Gary's greatest accomplishment in the amateur's was winning the 2003 Utah Super Heavyweight golden gloves championship. Gary then turned professional in the beginning of 2012 and has fought actively since.
