Following a tough loss in a January '79 Golden Gloves bout, Peter graduated HS and began USMC boot camp.Upon graduation and completion of Basic Schooling, though there were no boxing facilities at his base,sparring at 160 pounds at a local naval base Peter caught the attention of former All-Navy and Olympic coach Dick Pettigrew who graciously "made a (very important)phone call". After a successful tryout at the Camp LeJeune(NC)"Snakepit", Peter boxed as an All-Marine team member while developing into a legitimate,though light, Heavyweight(190#). Losing to the All-Marine Middleweight Champ Diamond Jim MacDonald in 1980, and then All-Marine Heavyweight Champ Patrick Bagley in 1981, Peter gave one more try before his departure from military service. After recovering from a 1st rd knockdown and 2"standing eight" counts in the 2nd round, The Polish Bomber achieved his best comeback victory with a one punch knockout over the 16-0(14KO) WestCoast champ. However the next night,battling slick David Brown toe-to-toe for 3 rounds, Peter suffered a cut eyelid and was TKO'd at 2:46, unknowingly resulting in a "career-ending" eye injury. After an Honorable discharge, Peter occasionally boxed,struggling with double-vision, while residing in Savannah,Ga. until his injury was uncovered in a December attempt to receive a NYAC professional license.
A born-again experience followed by a medically verified miracle returned Peter to a LI ring where he captured the 1986 Empire State Games Super-Heavyweight(201#+) title[193# weighing-in with 10# ankle weights)on his way to the state heavyweight championship, where he endured the judges favor Webster Vinson in a tough split-decision loss,thus ending his amateur career.[[Category:Polish American Boxers|Ludwinski, Peter]]

Began on street, throwing first punch at four years old after warning neighborhood group of 5-5year olds to stop teasing him for riding a tricycle. Continued in living room against brother while supervised by Pop, who was a Floyd Patterson sparring partner. March 8,1971,following The "Fight Of The Century", desired to become World Heavyweight Champion. That summer at 95#, after reading "How To Box For Youngsters", held experienced foe "Oscar"? to an exhibition/draw in Toms River NJ. Between playing Football, Baseball, Basketball, and even running a little Track/Hurdles/High Jump, he occasionally punched a garage heavy bag. In May 1976,playing basketball at the Lindenhurst(NY)Youth Center Peter met Carl "Duke" Schroeder, NYPD Detective and former amateur/pro/boxer/referee, soon after becoming the 112# "Polish Bomber". Winning some, losing some, continuing on with Detective Schroeder at the Suffolk County Police Athletic League, Peter grew from 132-156 pounds, winning the inaugural(78') Long Island Empire States Games Light-Middleweight title.
