* Showtime televised preliminary to the main event to [[Floyd Mayweather Jr.]] versus [[Saul Alvarez]], fought unofficially for a shot at Floyd.

* Matthysse, the favored hard puncher, appeared to outbox the 27-0 Garcia for the first few rounds. Garcia took his shots well and started taking control from the middle rounds after a good 4th Round.

* Garcia's powerful left hooks closed Matthysse's right eye in the seventh round, leaving Matthysse unable to see most hooks coming.

* Garcia left-right midsection combination followed by a left to the head sent Matthysse to the canvas in round 11 for first time in his career.

* Garcia penalized a point in round in round 12 for low blows by referee [[Tony Weeks]]. 114-112 scorecard by two judges seen as correct.

* Garcia wins in a minor upset to claim a future chance at [[Floyd Mayweather Jr.]] at 147 pounds in 2014, or [[Carlos Molina]] who also won.
== Bout Summary ==
[[file:Ricky Hatton vs. Manny Pacquiao.JPG|250px|thumb|right]]
Hatton came out in the opening round looking to apply pressure and make it a physically rough fight. Pacquiao, however, was able to land effective counters and caught the visibly slower Hatton with big punches upstairs. It was evident that Hatton wanted to rush his way in and work mostly on the inside, but failed to move his head effectively and was repeatedly caught as he came forward. Hatton was put down twice in the opening round. The first came by way of a right hook. Hatton remained one one knee until the referee's count of eight. After making it to his feet, he was clearly shaken and spent much of the remainder of the round in survival mode. The second knockdown took place in the last few seconds of the round from an accumulation capped with a straight left that sent Hatton falling backwards.
Hatton landed a few decent punches in the opening of Round 2 and for a split second it appeared that he might have regained himself enough to make it a competitive fight. A sudden and perfect left hand, however, put Hatton out and sent him straight to the mat. He remained lying flat on his back in the center of the ring as the referee, kneeling beside him, waved the finish rather than count to ten. Hatton, who looked to be in bad shape after the knockout, was down in the ring for a few tense moments as he was attended to by the ringside physicians.

== Comments ==
* "The fight was no surprise to me. We know he always pumps his hands before he throws a punch. He's a sucker for the right hook."
- Pacquiao's trainer [[Freddie Roach]] [http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=4129461]

* "I didn't think it would be so easy, but I worked hard since the beginning of March in training camp. He was open for the right hook. I knew he'd be looking for the left. This was nothing personal. I was just doing my job. This was as big for me as the (Oscar) [[Oscar De La Hoya|De La Hoya]] victory."
- Pacquiao in the post-fight interview[http://www.hbo.com/boxing/events/2009/0502_pacquiao_hatton/news/fight_fightupdate.html]

* "I would suggest he retire. At the end of the day, it's his decision. He tried twice. He failed twice. He lost to my son and to lose to someone below that, it's time to leave the ring. He made a good profit. Sometimes you have to go when your prime is still there." - Hatton's trainer [[Floyd Mayweather]] [http://www.chippewa.com/articles/2009/05/03/ap/sports/d97urdig0.txt] (Of note, there were previous mentionings that the camp leading up to this fight would likely be the last partnership between Hatton and Mayweather regardless of the outcome.)[http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/gareth_a._davies/blog/2009/05/01/rumour_mill_and_mind_games_in_overdrive_over_hatton_mayweather_split_]
== Comment(s): ==
- Behind on all scorecards, Eubank mounted a comeback in Round 10 to protect his unbeaten record. Putting Watson under severe pressure for the first time in the fight, he simply could not take advantage though. Watson, after soaking up a desperate attack, had Eubank on the canvas with a short right near the end of round 11, mainly down to Eubank's exhaustion. The referee did not give a mandatory count, so as Eubank rose from the canvas and the boxers fought on, Eubank threw an uppercut which sent Watson crashing backwards into the ropes for a knockdown. The bell rang as Watson rose, looking to be in no state to continue, as he was ushered back to his corner.
- The 60 second break told different stories for both fighters as Eubank was then set to try for a KO as he couldn't win on points. Watson on the other hand, just had to survive the round to win, but he appeared concussed, and in no condition to be sent out to fight. He was sent out to fight, and after taking a barrage of punches from Eubank, the fight was stopped early in Round 12.
- Unfortunately, Watson collapsed in the ring and was rushed to hospital, where his life was saved by emergency brain surgery. For many years he was paralysed, but recently has improved so that he can now walk and talk, albeit affected by the tragedy.
"The fight was a contrast in styles, with Minter, a classic standup boxer, using right jabs to keep Antuofermo at bay. But he couldn't do so all the time and the Italian-born mauler lowered his head and rushed in, frequently driving Minter to the ropes. The two fighters, both known as heavy bleeders, suffered cuts over their eyes but the bout was remarkably free of blood. Antuofermo, 158 1/4, put the left-handed Minter down in the 14th round with a right to the body, but Minter, 159 3/4, scrambled quickly to his feet. Minter was given an eight count although he claimed he had been pushed. Minter, aided by a lopsided score by a British judge, took the title from Antuofermo by a split decision in a 15 round nationally televised fight from Caesars Palace. The British judge, Roland Dakin, scored the fight 149-137 for Minter. Judge Charles Minker of Las Vegas scored it 144-141 for Minter, while judge Ladislao Sanchez of Venezuela scored it 145-143 for Antuofermo. The AP also had it 145-143 for Antuofermo. The decision was at odds with the scoring of many ringsiders. An informal poll of 17 writers covering the fight showed 10 scoring for Antuofermo, 5 for Minter and 2 scoring it a draw." -Associated Press

Post fight comments

* "When they said 'split decision,' and then 'Minter,' it was unbelievable. If they had said 'Antuofermo,' I might have had a heart attack." -Alan Minter

* "I thought for sure I won. This fight, they gave it to him. I wasn't wrong, your judge was wrong. They should suspend both these judges." -Vito Antuofermo

* "He was blind. He was a prejudicial judge. You can quote me on that too." -Roy Tennison, Executive Secretary of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, on Roland Dakin's scorecard.

==Summary==
The first three rounds were even, with Ross power punch counter punching in response to the taller Cunningham's jabs. In the fourth, straight left hand from Ross sent Cunningham to the canvas, who beat the count. Later in the round, Cunningham landed a counter right which sent his thumb into the right eye of Ross, badly cutting the left lower eyelid. The ringside physician determined Ross could not continue, stopping the bout. It appeared on replay the referee never saw the thumbing. Instead of ruling this bout a no-contest after four rounds due to an accidental foul, referee Bill Clancy ruled the cut eyelid was caused by a clean punch, and Cunningham regained the vacant IBF Cruiserweight title. The result of this bout, fought on neutral territory between Canadian Troy Ross and American Steve Cunningham (Boxrec and Ring magazine # 1) could be appealed to the German Boxing Commission. The bout showed the impact instant replay footage has if referees could officially use it. Steve Cunningham's sixth consecutive IBF bout.

* Pavlik cut left eyebrow in 1st round. Martinez down in 7th round for a flash knockdown and he was given an eight count, all three judges scoring the seventh round 10-8 in favour of Pavlik, although Martinez later claimed it was an accidental fall, when their feet got tangled up. Pavlik cut also right eyebrow.
* The Associated Press scored it 115-112.
*Martinez appeared to win the first four rounds, Pavlik the next four rounds, and Martinez the last four rounds. According to promoter Bob Arum after the bout, " An easy fight to score."
*Martinez' corner told him to put the pressure on from the ninth round on, aggressively going after Pavlik's eye cuts and turning Pavlik's face bloody for the rest of the bout.
*Martinez' hands were down the entire bout, yet he landed fast jabs to the head and body which Pavlik could not stop at times. Martinez appeared to find his distance range.
*Speed, according to Martinez in the post fight press conference, was his best weapon. Hand speed Pavlik could not match, and foot speed Pavlik could not adjust to. In the corner after the tenth round, Pavlik stated "I can't hit him! I can't hit him!"
*Pavlik appeared to throw only one body punch the whole bout. He spent the night headhunting and loading up on the right, but it landed consistently only in rounds 5, 6, 7, and 8.
*Martinez' corner called Pavlik "a great champion". They stated Pavlik showed great courage fighting the last few rounds despite a great deal of blood, which affected his vision.
*Promoter Lou DiBella acknowledged that Pavlik has a mandatory rematch clause in the fight contract, which Pavlik can exercise at his discretion. Martinez camp stated in post fight press conference "He (Pavlik) can have a rematch whenever he wants."
*Martinez' camp stated in the post fight press conference that Martinez has 15 days to decide which belts he chooses to keep, junior middleweight or middleweight. His camp favored the 154 pound weight class.
*Martinez' camp acknowledged this win was first middleweight title for an Argentinian fighter in over 40 years since Carlos Monzon, who they remembered. Martinez stated in the press conference his pride at bringing the title to Argentina again.
*Boxer Paul Williams was in attendance at ringside. Total attendance for this boxing card at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall was 6,179.
