Henry:

When I was a child, I used to do alot of things like playing soccer and hide and seek with other kids. But as I grew older I became more developed in my mind and my soul. I heard of a boxer by the name of Cassius Clay. That's when I started to change my lifestyle. He was a bragger, so was I. That's when I started looking into boxing and started to box.
I was good and quick. His image was enlightening to me. I became a lightweight contender in my country, Belize.
I went on folling his foot steps by becoming Muslim that when Muhammad came in to my life I changed my name to Henry Basil Mateen. I also married as a Muslim. My wife's name was Yvonne Gill. She had two girls for me. My oldest girl's name is Rasheedah Gill and my youngest girl's name is Khalleelah Gill. That when I became a follower of Muhammad Ali. I fly like a butterfly, sting like a bee, I am not Muhammad Ali, I am Henry.

Then going to a Gym in Belize City to perform my skills was learning the technique of boxing by listening to my trainer. He told me how to punch and throw a jab. Jabbing was my weapon punch. I was a very quick jabber. I cut guys very easily with my jabs. I threw right handed and uppercuts. I also threw left hooks and combinations in training. That's when I decided to fight for the Lightweight Championship of Central America with the champ. His name was Alvarro Rohas. It was going to be a good fight but management was the problem.

Why I say that is because they treated me so badly by changing my diet and weakening me. That affected me mentally and spiritually. Because what happened was I didn't fight. I had a fear come inside me so that I took a dive by throwing myself on the canvas. Then I started to roll over and over. But people who know me said "Why did you do that?" They would never understand what that does to a fighter. Why I say that is that fear takes away the power out of your mind, because your mind controls your body. So not eating right will not give you the strength to do the things you have for the future.
Yes because my future started now. So by conditioning my mind and staying healty is the best policy. For me, it gives me strength for the future. I love it and I am enjoying it. Boxing gives me so much to talk about in this day and time. Looking at guys in my time, they are not doing anything. They would rather walk around remembering what they did and do not put any interest in the sport. I know alot of my friends who were boxers and lived in the United States who did nothing for the sport of boxing. I love it so I am writing this autobiography of my own understanding of boxing. Like I say Muhammad Ali inspired me so I am taking the dream to the limit.
Boxing is the combination of punches. By throwing one punch, it is not enough. By moving, sticking, punching- that is the way to beat an opponent. I did it, so did Muhammad.
I heard of a boxer by the name of Cassius Clay. That's when I started to change my lifestyle. He was a bragger, so was I. That's when I started looking into boxing and started to box.
I was good and quick. His image was enlightening to me. I became a lightweight contender in my country, Belize.
I went on folling his foot step by becoming Muslim that when Muhammad came in to my life I changed my name to Henry Basil Mateen.

Because what happened was I didn't fight I had a fear come inside me so that I took a dive by throwing myself on the canvas.

I went on folling his foot step by becoming Muslim that when Muhammad came in to my life I changed my name to Henry Basil Mateen.
When I was a child, I used to do alot of things like playing soccer and hide and seek with other kids. But as I grew older I became more developed in my mind and my soul. That's when I started looking into boxing and started to box.
