He loved these natural, simple surroundings and helped his family on the ranch as a child. He walked five miles every day to school. He has many fascinating stories to tell about his life on the ranch when he was a little.&lt;br /&gt;

When Efrain was fifteen, he wanted to start a new life and provide for his family. He moved to Mexico City, and that is where he started his career in boxing. His original intention upon moving to the city was to study law and he worked at various jobs, one of them being the famous &amp;quot;La Merced&amp;quot; to pay for his schooling and to help his family. He took up boxing because he always enjoyed watching boxing on television when he was a child and wanted to become a boxer. He soon became very serious about it and boxing became a full-time career for Efrain, and still is to this day. He moved from Mexico City to Los Angeles, California in 1992.&lt;br /&gt;
