The WIBA flyweight match held in Bangkok on Friday April 10 began with a lot of action since the first round, with the aggressive Thai boxer utilizing her longer reach to launch flurries at Leivas, but the Swedish was able to hold her guards to strike a counter punch at the right moment. By the fourth round, however, Samson finally exhausted Leivas and put her to the canvas for a count of eight by a hook to the body.

From then on, the Thai was conducting a one-sided onslaught and sent Leivas down again in the sixth round, although the Swedish was saved by the bell. In the two subsequent rounds, Leivas was attempting to flee from Samson’s attacks but it did not seem to help her much. In the eighth round, the referee decided to end the game and let Samson win the WIBA title.

According to WIBA representative Raymond Chang, Samson will have to challenge the real title holder Eileen Olszewski, a 40-year-old American pugilist who is taking a break from fighting due to an injury, in August this year.

"Former WBC Female Light Flyweight titlist, “The Orange” Samson Tor Buamad (Sor Siriporn) of Thailand, retained her WIBA International Flyweight belt by an impressive unanimous decision won over former IFBA and WBA Female Minimumweight titles challenger, Luo Yu Jie, of China at Temporaly Boxing Stadium, Sri Satchanalai in Sukhothai Province, Thailand on June 17.

Samson who is taller and has more experience than her Chinese challenger used her agressive style to beat Yu Jie since the opening round. Yu Jie tried to land some good shots to destroy the Thailander but no more effectiveness. After midmay of that fight Yu Jie lost her power after recieving many big blows to the body therefore Thai champion got points almost every rounds. The final scorcards were read 100-91, 99-91, and 98-93 all for Samson.

Thai former world champion is planning to make her second defence in Chaingmai Province as soon as possible. She wants back to the top level of Asian female fighters and hopes to have a good oppotunity to challenge WIBA World Flyweight title with “The Hawaiian Mongoose” Eileen Miyoko Kuwaye Olszewski of USA in the end of this year.

Apparently receiving a broken rib in one of the early rounds, Gi Young Kim clearly favored and protected her right side throughout the bout. She was however determined to fight through and the bout was a more spirited match than anticipated. Gi Young was able to stay ahead of Soo Young on the scorecards until the 8th round, when Soo Young overcame her opponent and won over the judges for the last three rounds. As soon as the final bell rang, Gi Young collapsed on the ring mat and moaned at the conclusion of the grueling bout. The title defense was declared a draw.

Rakoczy had controlled the early rounds but was in trouble from a later-round rally by the hard-charging Saccurato although she was reportedly ahead on two of the three scorecards. Saccurato dropped Rakoczy with a stunning straight right to her face, and the referee stopped the bout.

Carlos Monzon was born in poverty in the slums of Argentina. His poor background and difficult childhood instilled a deep anger and hatred in him. He learned early that he loved to fight. He was discovered hanging around the famed Luna Park by trainer [[Amilcar Brusa]]. His first wife was Beatriz Garcia.

Monzon was tall, lanky, and had a strange habit of pushing his punches. He seemed lumbersome in the ring, yet his punches were devastating, his conditioning perfect, and his chin was made of iron. Yet, his somewhat aloof personality, coupled with an almost listless ring style, caused Monzon to toil in the rings of Argentine against mostly 2nd rate fighters. After losing 3 fights in his first year as a pro, Monzon won over 50 straight fights to earn a number 10 world ranking in 1970.

When Monzon shocked the boxing world by winning the World Middleweight Title by knocking out [[Nino Benvenuti]], people rubbed their heads and said, " Carlos Who?!" Fame and fortune were now his. His ego and temper grew. Even though he was married, he had countless romances on the side. Actress Suzanna Gimenez was seen with him. Monzon acted in Italian & French films. He jet-setted with movie star Alain Delone. He kept winning and winning. He survived a gun shot to the shoulder from his wife; an accident they said.

He was accused of breaking a reporter's jaw. He was friendly only with the elite of the elite. He had a soft spot for [[Bennie Briscoe]] and always greeted his arch-rival with a big smile and firm handshake. He retired undefeated over the last thirteen years of his career. In retirement boredom set in and so did his demons. Caught up in the party lifestyle; it came crashing down when he was convicted of killing his common-law-wife.

Monzon died in a car accident while on a prison furlough.

Monzon is buried at ''Cementerio Municipal de Sante'', in Santa Fe, Argentina. A life-size figure of Monzon, wearing his championship belt, with his hands raised in victory, stands atop his grave.
