Born in Reading Berkshire of Barbadian parentage, he was inspired as an infant by the great Muhammad Ali.
This young boxing fan would inform primary school pupils, secondary school mates and anyone who cared to listen of the happenings on the Boxing Scene of the time. By the age of twelve he knew everyone who had ever been recognised as the Heavyweight Champion of the World. After having a short period of amateur involvement he wrote to the British Boxing Board of Control 1988 regarding becoming a referee. This process would lead him to becoming that in the season 1990-91.

Jeff Hinds has become a renowned and respected official who has gained the respect of his fellow professionals and all partaking in the sport over the last 25 years. Asked why he has not yet been placed in the higher echelons of British officials after such long and meritorious service - he simply said 'you ain't seen nothing yet'.
Having worked for the British Boxing Board of control, WBO, WBA, WBC, IBO, WBU and the Commonwealth Council I can safely say in Jeff Hinds you have one thoroughbred of a person.
