* Porter took the fight to Thurman and appeared to win at least the majority of the first nine rounds. Thurman appeared to clearly win the last three. However many rounds were close. The enthusiastic capacity crowd cheered for both competitors after every blow which landed. Porter opened the bout with rapid foot movement, and came forward with pressure, not letting Thurman get set for his punches. The paced had slowed by the midpoint of the bout. Thurman's defense was relatively tight, and Porter did not move as much nor land as much over the last few rounds.

* Close bout. The crowd booed the decision, but many rounds were close and seemed difficult to score. All three judges consistently had the bout 115-113 for Keith Thurman. However, many of those in attendance thought Shawn Porter won. Controversial decision.

* Clean bout, no knockdowns. Thurman pushed Porter to the canvas once during the contest, ruled no knockdown.

* At the post fight press conference, Thurman called out WBC World Welterweight champion Danny Garcia for a unification super fight.

* An untelevised moment of silence was observed for noted Staten Island boxing writer Jack Obermeyer, who died the morning of the bout at age 72 after covering boxing for over 50 years for Ring Magazine and other publications. Since 1965, Obermeyer covered 3914 boxing cards in over 400 cities in 49 states. A televised moment of silence was also observed for the late Muhammad Ali.

*Timothy Bradley 31-0 (12 KOs) vs. Manny Pacquiao 55-5-2 (38 KOs)
*Bradley entered as a 2-to-1 betting underdog.
*The Ring Magazine sought the opinions of 38 boxing insiders as to what would transpire in Bradley-Pacquiao II: 23 picked Pacquiao to win, and 15 went with Bradley.
*Bradley entered the bout as the #3 pound-for-pound boxer in the world and the #1 welterweight contender according to The Ring Magazine. Pacquiao was ranked as the #7 pound-for-pound boxer and the #3 welterweight contender. Following the fight, Bradley fell to #2 among the welterweights and #5 pound-for-pound, while Pacquiao rose to #1 at welterweight and #4 pound-for-pound.
*John Keane of Great Britain was originally scheduled to work as one of the three ringside judges for the fight, but he pulled out due to an illness. He was replaced by Canadian Craig Metcalfe.
*The official purses for Pacquiao-Bradley II were $6 million apiece, according the contracts filed with the Nevada State Athletic Commission. However, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said Pacquiao was guaranteed a minimum of $20 million, much of which would be paid out in the weeks after he collected his $6 million check on fight night. Both boxers also earned a portion of the pay-per-view revenue.
*Pacquiao-Bradley II generated a live gate of $7,865,100 from 14,099 sold tickets, according to the Nevada State Athletic Commission. There were 894 unsold tickets and 926 complimentary tickets from the 15,919 available tickets.
*Among those in attendance were boxing luminaries Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Miguel Cotto, Yuriorkis Gamboa, Roy Jones Jr., Shane Mosley, Ruslan Provodnikov, and Mickey Ward, as well as retired NBA players Charles Barkley and Reggie Miller, actor Jack Nicholson and comedian Dave Chappelle.
*With only a few seconds left in the fight, an accidental headbutt opened a cut over Pacquiao left eye. It required 35 stitches to close,
*ESPN's Dan Rafael scored the bout 118-110 in favor of Pacquiao, and HBO's Harold Lederman had it 116-112 for Pacquiao.
*Sports Illustrated reported that Pacquiao-Bradley II generated between 775,000 and 800,000 pay per view buys.

Bradley had promised to go for a knockout and he did just that, wading into battle even though he is not known for having much power. He has only one knockout since 2007, against a long-faded former lightweight champion Joel Casamayor, but it did not deter him.

Still, that strategy played into Pacquiao's hands because he was so aggressive, bordering on being reckless. Pacquiao let his hands fly throughout the fight and although he couldn't knock Bradley down, he landed dozens of powerful punches and left no doubt that he deserved the victory to reverse the split decision loss he suffered on June 9, 2012.

"He gave me a good fight. He's not that easy," Pacquiao said. "I listened to my corner about keeping my hands up and timing. He threw a lot of punches. He threw wide, wide, wide hooks. I got hit one time and said it's not good to be careless."

Said Freddie Roach, Pacquiao's Hall of Fame trainer: "Manny was a little sloppy tonight but I was happy with his performance. It looked like Bradley was going for a one-punch home run."

Bradley said he was hampered by a right calf injury in the first round, but he did not make excuses. He was a sportsman and gave Pacquiao credit for the victory.

"I have no excuses," Bradley said. "Stuff happens. I got nothing to say about it. ‎You can't say nothing against Manny. I lost to one of the best fighters in the world. Manny fought his heart out. I tip my hat to his whole corner, Freddie Roach and his whole team."

Said Joel Diaz, Bradley's trainer: "After the first round Tim came back to the corner and said, 'I think I tore my right calf.' I began to massage it. He was in a lot of pain from that point on and I didn't have much to work with."

As soon as the fight started, Pacquiao turned on his aggressive jets and the pro-Pacquiao crowd began chanting "Manny! Manny! Manny!"

Pacquiao, a southpaw, had great success with his straight left hand. As early as the second round, he used a straight left to knock Bradley off-balance and into the ropes, and then moments later stood him straight up with another excellent left hand. But Bradley, who earned $6 million plus a share of the pay-per-view profits, responded in an action-packed round, slinging overhand rights.

"I tried, I really tried," Bradley said. "I wanted that knockout. Manny is a great fighter, one of the best in the world. I lost to one of the greatest fighters in boxing. I kept trying to throw something over the top, that was the plan. I knew I had to do more in this fight than in the last fight."

"Bradley was wild on the outside so I went to the inside," Pacquiao said.

They continued to let their hands fly in the third round. Pacquiao landed repeatedly with his straight left hand and Bradley landed hard body shots. They spent most of the wild round going for the knockout.

Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs), who was guaranteed $20 million plus upside on the pay-per-view profits, appeared to hurt Bradley (31-1, 12 KOs) late in the sixth round when he closed the round unloading a sustained flurry with Bradley backed into the ropes. Then he had a huge seventh round. He hurt Bradley and had him hanging on after firing about a dozen unanswered punches with Bradley in a corner. Moments later, he let another flurry fly, although Bradley motioned for him to come to him. Pacquiao obliged and the round ended.

The Filipino icon, still with tremendous speed at age 35, looked more like the younger version of himself, the one who attacked opponents relentlessly. Bradley, 30, of Palm Springs, Calif., was happy to go along and it made for an exciting fight, such as in the ninth round when there were many fierce exchanges, even though Pacquiao got the better of them.

Even though Pacquiao did not get the knockout he said he wanted to get, he still did something nobody else has done -- hang an official loss on Bradley.

"He's fighting Tim Bradley, who nobody has knocked out or beaten," Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said. "He was fighting one of the great welterweights in the world. He's not fighting a guy who has cement in his shoes and can't move and is a 15-to-1 to shot, charitably."

That last remark was Arum making reference to pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s May 3 welterweight title unification fight against heavy underdog Marcos Maidana in a fight Arum spent as much time during fight week criticizing as he did pumping up his own fight.

By the 10th round, the right side of Bradley's face was red and swollen from eating so many left hands.

"I picked up more steam in the second half when I made adjustments," Pacquiao said. "Bradley is much better than in the first fight we had. He hurt me on the chin."

Bradley must have known he needed a knockout in the final round, but was unable to land much of anything, except for an accidental head butt in the final seconds that opened a cut over Pacquiao's left eye.

"That was a helluva performance from two terrific athletes and two great sportsmen," Arum said. "The crowd was entertained and it was a competitive match. Manny's performance was absolutely great. I was very pleased. I thought Tim looked to surprise him with a game plan where he became the aggressor and Manny was able to turn that around. I'm really proud of them."

Bradley figures to return in another major fight regardless of the loss. He remains one of the best in the world.

"Life goes on," he said. "I'll just go back to the gym."
*World Boxing Organization Welterweight Title (1st defense of 2nd reign by Pacquiao)

Manny Pacquiao dominates Algieri<br>
<small>By Dan Rafael, ESPN.com, November 23, 2014</small>

The great Manny Pacquiao did everything he could possibly do against Chris Algieri other than get a knockout in a one-sided thrashing to retain his welterweight world title.

Pacquiao, boxing's only eight-division titleholder, scored six knockdowns and dominated virtually every minute of the fight to win a lopsided unanimous decision before a sold-out crowd of 13,201 on Sunday at the Venetian Macao's Cotai Arena in Macau. Now the only question remaining in his legendary career is whether he will ever get fellow welterweight champion and pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. to agree to fight him after years of the biggest fight in boxing going unmade, mainly due to Mayweather's reluctance.

"The people deserve that fight. The fans deserve that fight," Pacquiao said at the post-fight news conference. "It's time to make that fight happen. It's been a long time. I want that fight. They're always denying the fight. I think the fight has to happen."

Coming into the fight with Algieri, there were many questioning where Pacquiao's once-devastating power had gone in recent years because, after a series of crushing knockouts as he moved up the scale, he had not scored one in eight consecutive fights since a 12th-round knockout of Miguel Cotto in November 2009 to win a welterweight title for the first time.

Make that nine in a row now, as the knockout drought continued despite Pacquiao's Hall of Fame trainer, Freddie Roach, predicting an early knockout, even saying at one point that it would be in the first round.

That didn't come close to happening, but Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs) laid a beating on huge underdog Algieri (20-1, 8 KOs), a junior welterweight titlist who moved up to meet him at a catch weight of 144 pounds. The judges all had it by lopsided decision for Pacquiao, 120-102, 119-103 and 119-103. ESPN.com also had it a shutout for Pacquiao, 120-102.

"Yes. I am looking for a knockout but he is fast and moving, so it's hard to get Chris," Pacquiao said.

Pacquiao's speed advantage was obvious from the opening moments of the fight. He had an easy first round, landing a good straight left hand down the middle and momentarily wobbling Algieri with a right hook.

The 35-year-old Pacquiao, the icon of the Philippines, where he is also a congressman and professional basketball player and coach, connected with a right hook in the second round that began to swell Algieri's left eye. He also landed a left hand that forced Algieri back to a corner, where he slipped on a wet spot. It was ruled a knockdown by referee Geno Rodriguez.

Pacquiao was landing almost at will. He dished out punishment in the fourth round, landing a hard uppercut, lefts to the body and lefts to the head.

Algieri landed some decent straight right hands during the fight, but they had little on them. Algieri was also warned for a low blow in the fifth round.

"I knew he would come on strong," Algieri said. "I had a feeling he would try to blast me out of there just because I'm not used to the big stage. Manny is the best in the world at fighting like Manny Pacquiao. That's really what it is. His style, he has so much experience. He's perfected fighting like Manny Pacquiao.

"The plan was to get to the later rounds without taking too much damage, step up the pace and land shots that would hurt him. If the knockout came, it came. We weren't specifically looking for the knockout, but we were looking to put some damage on the guy."

He never did, and it was Pacquiao putting damage on him. He found his power in the sixth round, knocking Algieri down twice. First, it was a left hand that had Algieri stumbling and then hitting the deck. Then, Pacquiao landed a clean right hand on the chin for the second knockdown.

Pacquiao, who made more than $20 million, scored two more knockdowns in the ninth round, one on a blistering straight left hand that sent Algieri hard to the canvas.

"I sat down on a left hook and he caught me with a great shot," said Algieri, who made a career-high $1.675 million (a big raise from his last purse, then a career-high $100,000). "That was really the only shot that hurt me. I had my legs when I got up but I knew he would come with an onslaught."

Indeed, Pacquiao did come with an onslaught, dropping Algieri again moments later after a series of punches sent him to a knee.

In the 10th round, Pacquiao notched his sixth knockdown of the fight, dropping Algieri with a right hook-straight left combination.

Despite the shellacking, Algieri's trainer, Tim Lane, was talking oddly in the corner after the round, telling Algieri they had Pacquiao where they wanted him. He should have been thinking about stopping the fight.

Despite not getting a knockout, Pacquiao said his power is still there.

"We improved our strength, we do more training, we started early in our training camp so I was very confident I would win the fight, and I'm in shape," he said.

Pacquiao landed 229 of 669 punches (34 percent), according to CompuBox punch statistics, while Algieri connected on only 108 of 469 blows (23 percent), few of which had any serious snap on them.

"I did my best. Of course, I am satisfied with my performance," said Pacquiao, who retained his title for the first time since regaining it from Timothy Bradley Jr. in April in a rematch of Bradley's hugely controversial split decision win in 2012. "I came to fight. I did my best. I think that's enough."

Algieri had come out of nowhere in June to win a controversial split decision and a 140-pound world title from Ruslan Provodnikov as he survived two first-round knockdowns and a badly swollen right eye. Provodnikov was going to be Pacquiao's opponent, but when he lost, Algieri got the call.

Knockout or not, Algieri, 30, of Huntington, New York, gave Pacquiao credit for the way he fought.

"It's not so much the punching power, to tell you the truth, it's how he mixes the punches up," said Algieri, a former kickboxer with a master's degree. "He has a very, very distinct and unique style that he has perfected. Manny Pacquiao is a hell of a fighter."

Yes, he is, but will he ever get Mayweather?

A few days before the fight, athletic apparel retailer Foot Locker released a humorous commercial featuring Pacquiao in which he riffs on the fight having not yet happened. At one point, Pacquiao misunderstands two other boxers in the gym and, believing they said Mayweather was going to fight him, Pacquiao begins to celebrate wildly in the ring and yells over and over, "He's going to fight me! He's going to fight me!"

There are signs that the fight is closer to happening than at any time since the original negotiations fell apart in early 2010. Top Rank promoter Bob Arum insists there are fruitful talks behind the scenes to bring together Showtime, which has Mayweather under contract, and HBO, which has a contract with Pacquiao, for a joint pay-per-view event.

"We're tired. Everywhere we go they ask when is it going to happen? When are they going to fight," Arum said. "I say enough is enough. Just make the fight happen. Let's get it done and let's get it done the next fight for each fighter, sometime in the first six months of next year."

Although Pacquiao is on board with the fight, and the networks might very well be able to make a deal, there has been no word from Mayweather, whose reluctance to face Pacquiao has been obvious for the past couple of years.

After the win against Algieri, HBO's Max Kellerman asked Pacquiao about the fight.

Pacquiao immediately launched into his commercial mode.

"He is going to fight me? Yes! Yes!" Pacquiao joked.

All joking aside, one can only hope Mayweather will face him. There is nothing left for either of them to prove, and no other fight the public wants from either.
*A reasonable matchup statistically: Bolonti had a 63% kayo percentage, while Pascal had a 53% kayo percentage coming in.
*Both men turned pro in 2005. Pascal had 233 rounds boxed, Bolonti 183 rounds coming in, a decisive edge in experience to Pascal.
*Pascal scored a flash knockdown of Bolonti early in round two.
*Past the halfway point in round two, Pascal went into a clinch. Bolonti struggled to get out of the clinch as Pascal would not let go. Bolonti hit Pascal behind the head, Pascal turned Bolonti to the ropes. The referee called break. Pascal then fouled, improperly hitting Bolonti with a short right hook off the referee's break. Bolonti headed to the canvas face first, was rolled to his back along the ropes by a ring doctor, and did not move from that point on, being removed by emergency personnel with oxygen on a stretcher. Despite the infraction, the bout was ruled a 'No Contest' rather than a disqualification. However, Pascal's planned challenge on March 14, 2015, to World Light Heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev, guaranteed if Pascal won this bout, was cancelled out by the fight result. Among those commenting with postfight analysis, Roy Jones Jr. accused Bolonti of faking injury. Video shot from ringside was later released showing Bolonti's promoter instructing him to stay down.
*Canadian professional boxing rules do not allow a win by foul within four rounds, ruled an unintentional foul by Pascal in Quebec.
*Replay of the foul and what ensued on Russian television

* Hopkins was down in the first from a short punch to the head, while his head was briefly turned to the right away from Kovalev. After that, the best Hopkins could muster was pushing Kovalev to the canvas and then raising his hands, ruled no knockdown. Kovalev won every round on the volume of punches thrown and landed even though Hopkins had the edge of punches thrown by percentage. Hopkins appeared to be in great physical condition. Kovalev appeared not to take any chances until round 12, when he battered Hopkins around a bit. Quality televised show by HBO. Scoring unofficially during the telecast, HBO commentator Harold Lederman gave Kovalev every round. Kovalev had a small mouse under his left eye on bout's conclusion.
* B-Hop succeeded in taking Kovalev into deep waters past round eight for the first time in Kovalev's career. Hopkins legs were still good, and though Kovalev repeatedly tried to cut off the ring on Bernard, Kovalev was not able to get a knockout.
* Holding was minimal during all 12 rounds. However, Kovalev was warned several times for hitting Hopkins behind the head by referee David Fields.
*Bernard Hopkins 50-5-1 (32 KOs) vs. Roy Jones Jr. 54-6 (40 KOs)
*The 45-year-old Hopkins entered as The Ring Magazine #3 light heavyweight contender and #4 pound-for-pound boxer. The 41-year-old Jones was unranked by the same publication.
*Jones entered with a record of 5-5 in his previous ten bouts dating back to May of 2004 and was coming off a 1st-round knockout loss to Danny Green. Hopkins came in 4-1 since June of 2006. His only loss was a split decision to Joe Calzaghe, and he had wins over Antonio Tarver, Ronald (Winky) Wright and Kelly Pavlik.
*Jones was a 3½ to 1 betting underdog.
*Hopkins landed 184 of 526 punches, while Jones connected on 82 of 274.
*Tickets were priced at $750, $500, $300, $200 and $100.
*The promoters, Golden Boy and Square Ring, advertised the fact that the fight would be shown only on pay-per-view and there would be no delayed broadcast.
*The pay-per-view announcers were Joe Tessitore, Doug Fischer and Sugar Ray Leonard.
*The fight generated 150,000 pay-per-view buys.
*Yahoo! Sports columnist Kevin Iole reported that Jones probably didn't make any money for the fight. He wrote:
:The sad thing about the fight is that Jones won't make anything. Let's assume for a second that the 6,792 in the building actually paid for their seats (we know that's not true) and that the seats averaged $300 a ticket (a figure higher than reality). That would mean the gate was $2 million. If the expenses to rent the building and promote the fight were $1 million, that means $1 million is left. Now, let's figure it sold 100,000 pay-per-views at $49.95 apiece. That's about $5 million. They have to split 50 percent of that with the cable and satellite operators, so that leaves $2.498 million for themselves. Add the $1 million from the gate and the $2.498 million from the pay-per-view and you have $3.498 million in profit. Given that the contract called for the first $3.5 million in profit to go to Hopkins and Golden Boy, it's almost certain Jones fought for nothing.

From The Associated Press:

Bernard Hopkins collapsed to his knees in his dressing room, drained from a brutal fight and exhausted by the end of his 17-year wait for revenge against Roy Jones Jr.

Two of their generation's greatest boxers just might have ended their careers together in a Las Vegas hospital Saturday night, but only Hopkins earned the right to leave with a victory.

Hopkins won a grueling unanimous decision in his long-delayed rematch with Jones, emphatically avenging his loss in the famed champions' first bout in 1993.

Although both fighters often appeared to be shadows of their former selves, the 45-year-old Hopkins (51-5-1, 32 KOs) dominated nearly every round of a light heavyweight fight filled with wily veteran tactics and fueled by obvious mutual dislike.

Hopkins punctuated his dominance with a stirring rebound from the 41-year-old Jones' punch behind his head and the ensuing in-ring fracas late in the sixth round at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. Hopkins was hit behind the head twice and below the belt at least once during the bout, leaving him with spots before his eyes in the final rounds.

"It was definitely worth it, and it was sweet revenge," Hopkins said in the ring before collapsing. "It was really rough in there. He's a good fighter, and he tried to rough me up. I tried to tough it out, but I was seeing spots from the sixth round on."

Hopkins also said he would love to fight heavyweight champion David Haye next. After recovering from his collapse, Hopkins shook off doctors who wanted to transport him to the hospital on a stretcher, dressing himself and walking into the ambulance. Jones also was taken for evaluation and possible treatment for a cut near his left eye.

With his fifth win in six fights since 2005, Hopkins settled an old score against Jones (54-7), who beat him by a clear decision on May 22, 1993, when both fighters still were on the cusp of standout careers.

While Hopkins has kept winning despite his advancing age, Jones has lost six of his last 11 bouts, falling precipitously from his pedestal as arguably the most dominant fighter of the 1990s. Jones was fresher than Hopkins after the bout, but his skills appeared to be far more stale.

"He's a defensive fighter, and he fought a smart fight," said Jones, who plans to talk to his advisers before deciding whether to keep fighting. "I had to chase him the whole time. The referee didn't warn him about (head butts), but every time I did something, I got a warning."

Although Hopkins won, even his closest friends could join Jones' camp in advising both fighters to retire.

"For Bernard, it could be a good ending," said Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, Hopkins' business partner in boxing promotion. "He got his revenge, and he waited 17 years to end it. It could be something which as a friend I would advise him to consider. ... I think it's time for his friends and family to have a serious talk with him."

Judges Don Trella and Glenn Trowbridge scored it 117-110 for Hopkins, while Dave Moretti favored him 118-109. The Associated Press had it 119-108, scoring 11 of 12 rounds for Hopkins.

The rematch was delayed by money and egos until well after most fight fans had stopped salivating for it. Hopkins finally agreed to the bout last year and stuck with it even after Jones lost his previous fight by first-round knockout in Australia last December.

The longtime middleweight champion then unleashed 17 years of frustration on Jones, who repeatedly declined to fight him a decade earlier.

Hopkins used his strength from the opening round, backing up Jones with bull-rushes or peppering him with shots while in retreat. A right hand from Hopkins in the second round appeared to open a cut near the left eye of Jones, who struggled to land combinations against Hopkins' defense and aggression.

During a clinch in the sixth, Jones threw a left to the back of Hopkins' skull with 10 seconds left, and Hopkins immediately crumpled to the canvas on his knees with his hands on his head. Hopkins stayed down for about three minutes, but eventually recovered -- and then unleashed a stunning flurry of vicious punches to Jones' head, propelling the crowd of just 6,792 fans to its feet.

The fighters kept trading shots well after the bell sounded. Referee Tony Weeks dived between them to break it up after a prolonged struggle against the ropes, and a member of Jones' entourage -- apparently the fighter's son -- jumped into the ring before Weeks and security guards restored order and got the fighters back to their corners.

Jones then threw a right hand to the back of Hopkins' head with 20 seconds left in the eighth round, and Hopkins dropped to one knee.

Hopkins dropped to his knees for a third time after Jones hit him with a low blow 45 seconds into the 10th round, staying down for another long stretch. Jones then got a recovery timeout in the 11th round when Hopkins charged into him with a flurry that included a clash of heads.

Another generation has grown up since Jones won the vacant IBF middleweight title with a unanimous decision over Hopkins on the undercard of a defense by heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.

Jones won the fight despite a right hand that was "pretty much fractured," he said. He went on to become arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter of the 1990s, with a grace and multisport athleticism that landed him everything from a Nike deal to movie roles.

Hopkins took a harder road, just as he's done throughout an adulthood that began with nearly five years in prison. He won the middleweight title in 1995 and defended it a record 20 times before evolving into one of the world's most versatile fighters in his 40s, trouncing Antonio Tarver, Winky Wright and Kelly Pavlik in recent years after a brief retirement.

Hopkins recognized the fight's throwback vibe in his ring walk by donning the black executioner's hood he frequently wore earlier in his career, but has pretty much discarded in recent years. He was led to the ring by an elderly multimillionaire businessman singing "My Way," with the lyrics adjusted to fit the fight.

Bout Summary
Hatton came out in the opening round looking to apply pressure and make it a physically rough fight. Pacquiao, however, was able to land effective counters and caught the visibly slower Hatton with big punches upstairs. It was evident that Hatton wanted to rush his way in and work mostly on the inside, but failed to move his head effectively and was repeatedly caught as he came forward. Hatton was put down twice in the opening round. The first came by way of a right hook. Hatton remained one one knee until the referee's count of eight. After making it to his feet, he was clearly shaken and spent much of the remainder of the round in survival mode. The second knockdown took place in the last few seconds of the round from an accumulation capped with a straight left that sent Hatton falling backwards.
Hatton landed a few decent punches in the opening of Round 2 and for a split second it appeared that he might have regained himself enough to make it a competitive fight. A sudden and perfect left hand, however, put Hatton out and sent him straight to the mat. He remained lying flat on his back in the center of the ring as the referee, kneeling beside him, reached the count of ten. Hatton, who looked to be in bad shape after the knockout, was down in the ring for a few tense moments as he was attended to by the ringside physicians.

Comments
* "The fight was no surprise to me. We know he always pumps his hands before he throws a punch. He's a sucker for the right hook." <br> - Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach

* "I didn't think it would be so easy, but I worked hard since the beginning of March in training camp. He was open for the right hook. I knew he'd be looking for the left. This was nothing personal. I was just doing my job. This was as big for me as the (Oscar) De La Hoya victory." <br> - Pacquiao in the post-fight interview

* "I would suggest he retire. At the end of the day, it's his decision. He tried twice. He failed twice. He lost to my son and to lose to someone below that, it's time to leave the ring. He made a good profit. Sometimes you have to go when your prime is still there." - Hatton's trainer Floyd Mayweather (Of note, there were previous mentionings that the camp leading up to this fight would likely be the last partnership between Hatton and Mayweather regardless of the outcome.)

* Pacquiao entered ranked as the # 1 fighter pound-for-pound in the world and the # 1 welterweight according to The Ring Magazine. Clottey, a 5-1 underdog, entered ranked as the # 5 welterweight by the same publication.
* The fight was the first to be held at the new Cowboy Stadium which opened May 27, 2009.
* This bout, labeled "The Event", came together after the super-fight between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. fell through due to disputes over the type of drug testing that would take place leading up the fight.
* Due to his normal trainer being unable to secure a visa to enter the United States, for the first time Clottey was trained by Lenny DeJesus
* The fight was rewarded with a paid crowd of 36,371 and a gate of $6,359,985, according to post-fight tax reports filed with Texas boxing regulators. Counting complimentary tickets delivered to sponsors, media outlets and others, the Dallas fight attracted 41,843, well short of the 50,994 that was initially announced, but still an epic number for boxing. The largely one-sided bout saw Pacquiao throw combinations against a heavily defensive Joshua Clottey. Pacquiao's volume of punches seemed to keep Clottey from opening up and attempting to mount much offensively other than an occasional right hand.
Gennady Golovkin looked sharp and confident en route to a dominant third-round knockout win over Matthew Macklin in the main event of HBO's Boxing After Dark card.

Golovkin, or Triple G, walked down Macklin, rocked him with accurate power punches in each of the first two rounds, and had the British-born Irishman in trouble early.

A left hand to the body from Golovkin midway through the third round sent Macklin down writhing in pain. He was unable to beat the referee's count and remained down in the ring for some time to recover. Through three rounds, Macklin had already been cut to his left eye and had bruising under his right.

Macklin, who has fought several world champions, called Golovkin the best opponent he has fought in the post-fight interview.
*Both HBO's Harold Lederman and ESPN's Dan Rafael scored the bout 116-112 in favor of Hopkins.
*With the win, Hopkins, 48, broke his own record of being the oldest world champion in boxing history.
*Cloud suffered a significant cut to his left eyelid in Round 6, which was ruled incorrectly by referee Earl Brown to be from an accidental clash of heads. Replay showed it to be from a short left hook. A cut also opened to Cloud's right eyelid in the twelfth round ruled to be from an accidental headbutt.
*"I was here in a similar situation in New York a little more than 22 years ago. That's when I brought a young man named Terry Norris here to New York, and he fought another legend at New York's Madison Square Garden. If you all remember, we retired that legend. So we're about to retire another legend on Saturday night. When I brought Terry Norris here, nobody gave him a chance. The craftiness and the ring experience of the legend that we fought was supposed to be too much for Terry Norris, and you all remember what happened. I expect the same results on Saturday night, and a new star will be born, which is Tavoris Cloud." - Trainer Abel Sanchez referring to Terry Norris vs. Sugar Ray Leonard. By the tenth round, Angulo's face had significant swelling and was cut due to Lara´s precise punches. In the round, a disfiguring hematoma developed to Angulo's left eye and following a few sharp left hands, Angulo turned away from his opponent and walked toward his corner. At that, veteran referee Raul Caiz Sr. waved an end to the bout. Angulo later claimed that he turned away from Lara to indicate to his corner that he had been thumbed in the eye and did not intend to quit. ==Dereck Chisora versus Malik Scott WBO International Heavyweight Title Bout==

* 'Dell Boy' Chisora stopped the 35-0-1 Malik Scott with an overhand right for the count of nine in round 6. According to established rules, this is a technical knockout or referee stoppage.

Malik Scott was warned by the referee throughout the contest for repeated fouling and clinching, but was not penalized. Scott boxed well with his jab, while Chisora scored well with body punches. With 15 seconds left in the sixth round, Scott went down along the ropes from a right hand to the back of the ear, and took a knee, smiling. Scott got up at the count of nine, but then referee Edwards shouted "Out" anyway, ending the contest.

* Chisora got credited with a knockout. Scott did not protest the seemingly premature stoppage but his corner did.
*Cleverly was floored twice in the third round and was out on his feet at the end of the round. Referee Terry O'Connor carried him to his corner at the end of the round. Kovalev attacked early in Round 4 leading O'Connor to wave an end to the bout.
* Crawford won but it was not an upset. The first seven rounds were competitive. Perhaps the first three rounds went to Burns as they were about even. From the fourth round on, edge to Crawford as his jabs were fast and he outworked Burns. The crowd cheered Burns on in his fifth title defense, but the judges got the scorecards correct. Not a close bout. One thing was clear: Crawford did the work for this bout, and in frequently tying Burns off and not letting him get off, Crawford stylistically fought the exact right type of fight to win. Burns had no answer.
Guerrero won a National Junior Olympic Gold Medal at 15 and was also voted the most outstanding fighter of the ESPN-televised tournament. A year later, he qualified for the 2000 Olympic trials, where he took third place after a loss to eventual-Olympian Clarence Vinson. At age 16, he was the youngest fighter to compete for the American team. He decided to turn professional right out of high school, at the age of 18. == Split With Goosen Tutor Promotions ==
Guerrero did not fight from February 2008 to January of 2009 due to a contract dispute with his then promoter Goossen Tutor. Guerrero claimed he sought a breakup with Dan Goossen in part because he hadn't received the big-money fights he craved against the likes of Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez. The arbitration case, which was held before the California State Athletic Commission, also hinged on the length of Guerrero's contract after an injury layoff earlier in his career. In December of 2008, the California attorney general's office ruled in Guerrero's favor, allowing him to become a free agent. Shortly after the ruling, Guerrero signed with Golden Boy Promotions. In September of 2009, however, Goossen Tutor won its case on appeal, with Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Robert H. O'Brien finding against the ruling of the CSAC and that "The award was procured by corruption, fraud or other undue means." Despite the ruling, Guerrero remained with Golden Boy Promotions as the time frame of the original contract had expired months prior.
