- The AP scored the fight 115-113 for De La Hoya. 
- HBO unofficial judge [[Harold Lederman]] scored the fight 114-114. 
- De La Hoya dominated the opening rounds with ease but, believing he had the fight won already, started running from Trinidad giving the last rounds away.

In my opinion, De La Hoya gave a boxing lesson to Trinidad in the first 8 or 9 rounds and, as the previous post stated, he gave away the last three rounds by just trying to protect his lead and not doing what had allowed him to completely dominate Trinidad up to that point. Inexplicably the judges gave the fight to Trinidad. It is a real pitty there wasn't a rematch as I am sure DE La Hoya would have KO'ed Trinidad.
