* Fought for the IBF Intercontinental Heavyweight title. Pulev retains his regional title. Joey Abell was a late sub who took the bout on one week's notice for Sherman Williams who pulled out. Abell landed some good shots in the first round on Pulev, a slow starter. Pulev lacked power, as his right hand power shots and right hand jabs scored on Abell but did not do damage. Abell looked winded by the third round, however. Pulev used a jab to the body to drop Abell in the third and three more times in the fourth. Abell beat the counts, and even put Pulev down with a hook to the head for a flash knockdown when Abell caught Pulev off balance. Abell did not answer the bell for the fifth round. This is normally ruled a retirement.http://www.eastsideboxing.com/2013/kubrat-pulev-stops-late-sub-joey-abell-to-defend-his-ibf-intercontinental-title/

- HBO unofficial ringside scorer Harold Lederman scored the fight 117-111 for Schulz as many other observer thought Schulz clearly won the fight.

- In 2000, at former IBF president Bob Lee's racketeering trial, Bob Arum testified that he agreed to pay $200,000 for the IBF to grant a special exemption to approve a title fight between Foreman and the unranked Schulz. $100,000 would be paid before the fight, and the other $100,000 would be paid after the fight. Arum said that he made the pre-fight payment but refused to make the post-fight payment after learning that Foreman had paid $250,000 to another IBF official. According to prosecutors, after Foreman won by a controversial decision, promoter Cedric Kushner paid the IBF to mandate a rematch. Foreman refused the rematch and vacated the IBF title.
*Chagaev was originally scheduled to fight Nikolay Valuev on May 30th in Helsinki, but the fight did not take place. The Finnish sanctioning body did not allow Chagaev to fight against Valuev, because Chagaev has Hepatitis-B. Klitschko agreed to fight against Chagaev, claiming that he is vaccinated against Hepatitis-B.
*Valuev turned down an offer to fight against Wladimir Klitschko.
*The sellout crowd of 61,000 was the biggest boxing audience in Germany since Max Schmeling knocked out Adolf Heuser in front of 70,000 people in Stuttgart in 1939.

Bout Summary
Klitschko came out working almost exclusively with his jab and mixed in a few straight hands sparingly. A straight right preceded by a jab caught Chagaev on the chin and put him down at 1:55 of Round 2. He was up quickly and received a mandatory eight-count. Following Round 4, Chagaev was visibly bleeding from the mouth, an obvious result of Wladimir's persistent 1-2 combinations that continually snapped back the head of Chagaev. In Round 5, action was temporarily paused as Klitschko was allowed time to recover from a punch that strayed low. Klitschko was warned in Round 6 for pushing down on the head of Chagaev. In Round 7, Chagaev developed a cut on his left eyebrow. Following the 7th Round bell, Chagaev threw a left hook that caught Klischko and was likely the most effective punch of the fight for Chagaev. The cut became increasingly a problem for Chagaev in the 8th Round as it opened up and covered most of the left side of Chagaev's face in blood. A strong 9th Round from Klitschko displayed that the fading Chagaev was becoming increasingly unable to defend himself from the right hand. The fight was called following the 9th Round after the referee visited Chagaev's corner. <br>
Klitschko controlled the action from the opening bell as he was able to use movement to keep Chagaev at the end of his straight punches. In fact, Klitschko rarely threw anything other than a jab or a straight right. Chagaev was simply unable to get inside and mounted very little in effective offense.
