'''Grand Rapids Press, Jan 30, 1932:'''The prelims failed to produce anything enough to cause any of the customers to whistle through their teeth. Frankie Misko took a six-round decision from Lyle Blain in what was billed as the semi-final. Misko was introduced as the middleweight champion of Michigan. He looked the part for a minute or so, but after that was good only in spots. Blain didn't look like the old Lyle. He spotted Misko four and one-half pounds, weighing in at 155 to Misko's 159 1/2, and this didn't help him either. Misko had Blain reeling several times, but couldn't floor him.

'''Grand Rapids Press, June 30, 1931''': Lyle Blain of Grand Rapids fought one of the best fights of his career in whipping Jimmy Smith of Detroit in six rounds. Smith showed he could box and carried a potent left hook that staggered Blain several times. Lyle used his left hand beautifully and boxed well all the way. He was also punching hard but Smith, although a bit groggy several times, refused to go down. The last round of the fight really decided the winner as up until then, matters were fairly even. It was a great scrap all the way.

Grand Rapid Press, Jan 25th 1930: Lyle Blain, local middledweight, Friday night made himself popular around these parts buy the simple method of hitting Leon Jasinski, pride of the nertheastern section, flush upon the chin with one solid right-hand poke in the Armoty ring. Lyle's right-hand blow came in the fifth of a scheduled 10-round bout and abruptly ended perhaps the most sensational fight that has been seen around here for some time.
