Anthony grew up in Watford and moved to the capital when he was 17. A year later he was introduced to boxing by his cousin, who took him along to the Finchley ABC to start training.

Being a naturally gifted sportsman, Anthony played football at a high level and, with the stamina and speed he possessed, he could regularly run the 100m in less than 11 seconds. However, boxing was his passion and Anthony quickly rose through the ranks.

He became Senior ABAE Champion at 91+kg in May 2010 and was added to GB Boxing’s Development Squad. In November that year he became Champion of Great Britain, defeating Amin Isa.

In 2011, Anthony retained his ABAE title and reached the quarterfinals of the European Championships, as well as defeating the Olympic and two-time World Champion Roberto Cammarelle in the quarterfinals of the World Championships. Anthony went on to win a silver medal, securing him qualification for London 2012.

One of the shining lights from one of the most successful Olympics in the modern era, Anthony defied the odds during the final round of the super heavyweight boxing final, where he turned around a three-point deficit to claim the gold medal for Team GB.

He was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2013 New Years Honours for services to boxing.

A natural talent in the ring, Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder has rapidly progressed from inexperienced Olympian to world heavyweight champion.

Chiseled 6-foot-7-inch Deontay Wilder dropped out of college and turned to boxing in 2005 to support his daughter, who was born with spina bifida. He was a quick study, winning the U.S. Olympic trials in his 21st amateur fight and earning an [[Olympics|Olympic]] bronze medal at the [[:Category:2008 Olympians|2008 Beijing Games]]. After winning his first 32 professional bouts by knockout, Wilder capped his rapid ascent by capturing a share of the world heavyweight title in January 2015.

Like countless other boys born and raised in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Wilder always wanted to play football or basketball for his hometown University of Alabama Crimson Tide.

However, the 6-foot-7-inch Wilder’s goals changed in 2005, when his daughter, Naieya, was born with spina bifida, a serious birth defect of the spinal cord.

A freshman at Tuscaloosa’s Shelton State Community College at the time, Wilder left school and was soon working two jobs in order to support his daughter, who doctors said might never be able to walk.

In an attempt to earn more money, Wilder took up boxing shortly thereafter and was an extremely quick study.

The United States Boxing Association (USBA) was created in 1977. In October of 1982, USBA president [[Bob Lee]] ran for the presidency of the [[WBA]] at their annual convention but lost to [[Gilberto Mendoza Sr.]]. In April of 1983, the members of the USBA voted to expand the organization and create an international division. The new organization was called the International Boxing Federation, and Bob Lee was named the president.

The IBF awarded their heavyweight title to Larry Holmes, who was viewed as the true [[World Heavyweight Champion]]. Holmes had recently vacated the [[WBC]] title after a dispute with the organization. The fact that the only sanctioning body belt Holmes had at the time was the IBF's greatly helped the new organization's credibility. He held the title from 1983 to 1985 and made three successful defenses.

The IBF is one of four major sanctioning bodies recognized by the [[International Boxing Hall of Fame]], along with the WBA, WBC, and [[WBO]].

In August of 2000, IBF president Bob Lee was acquitted of charges that he took bribes from promoters and managers to manipulate boxers' rankings, but he was found guilty of tax evasion, money laundering and interstate travel in aid of racketeering. He was sentenced to 22 months in prison and fined $25,000.

==Super Champions==
In 2001, the WBA created a new title: Super Champion. Their website states:
:The SUPER WORLD CHAMPION CATEGORY OR UNDISPUTED WORLD CHAMPION was created for those World Champions who hold the title of two or more organizations recognized by the WBA, like the World Boxing Council (WBC), the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and the World Boxing Organization (WBO).

However, the WBA also gives Super Champion status to fighters who aren't unified champions. Featherweight champion [[Chris John]] was named Super Champion even though he wasn't a unified champion. The WBA said it was an award for making ten successful title defenses. Welterweight champion [[Antonio Margarito]] was also named Super Champion even though he was not a unified champion and had not made a single title defense.

'''Guillermo Rigondeaux''' was one of the most decorated amateurs in the history of boxing. Competing in the bantamweight (54 kg) class, he won seven [[2004 Cuban Olympians|Cuban]] national championships (2000-2006), two [[Olympics|Olympic]] gold medals (2000 & 2004), and two amateur world championships (2001 & 2005). Rigondeux claimed an amateur record of 374-12. His last losses came against [[Rencise Perez]] and [[Bekzat Sattarkhanov]] in 1998, [[Waldemar Font]] in 1999, and [[Agasi Mamedov]] in 2003.

On July 22, 2007, Rigondeaux and teammate [[Erislandy Lara]] failed to appear for their scheduled bouts at the Pan American Games in Brazil. It was initially announced that Rigondeaux was to turn professional, joining fellow 2004 Cuban Olympians [[Odlanier Solis]], [[Yuriorkis Gamboa]] and [[Yan Barthelemy]], who defected earlier in 2007. However, Rigondeaux and Lara were taken into police custody three days later for overstaying their visas and sent back to Cuba. Rigondeaux and Lara insisted they never intended to defect, but German promoter [[Ahmet Oener|Ahmet Oener]] of [[ARENA Box-Promotion]] said they signed professional contracts. Cuban leader Fidel Castro said at the time that neither would again be included on the national team because "the Cuban athlete who deserts his delegation is like a soldier who deserts his unit in the midst of combat."

Rigondeaux was able to successfully defect in February 2009. He was taken out of Cuba on a cramped smuggler’s boat and delivered to Miami, where he joined Lara, who had defected the previous June. Both signed promotional deals with ARENA Box.

In only his seventh professional bout, Rigondeaux won the interim WBA super bantamweight title with a twelve-round split decision against [[Ricardo Cordoba]] on November 13, 2010.

Rigondeaux captured the full WBA super bantamweight title on January 20, 2012 by knocking out [[Rico Ramos]] with a body shot in round six.

In April 2013, Rigondeux upset [[Nonito Donaire]] by a twelve-round unanimous decision to unify the WBA and WBO super bantamweight titles.

Trainer [[Freddie Roach]] said of Rigondeaux: "He's probably the greatest talent I've ever seen."
