Who this boxer is? Is a mystery. Under the same name, he was alleged to have been an amateur boxer out of Fort Worth, Texas -- a 1974 Fort Worth Golden Gloves and Star-Telegram Texas Golden Gloves State welterweight champion and fifth ranked U.S. national amateur boxer in his weight classification. The amateur fighter (Escalante) was banned from amateur boxing for a short while during 1974-75, until an investigation showed doubts that the pro was him and reestablished his amateur status. In his comeback, to defend his Fort Worth Golden Gloves title, Escalante lost to "[[Ronnie Adams]]," who would also be reestablished as an amateur after being accused of being a pro.
[[Category:Texas Golden Gloves Champions|Escalante, Robert]]

Robert Lee Escalante is from Seguin,Tx.. Seguin lies 35 miles to the east of San Antonio,Tx. and about 60miles south of Austin,Tx. in South Central Texas. I don't know exactly when his amature boxing career started.. But, I do know that it was under the tutalage of a Former Professtional boxer Rocky Contreras. In his debut at the State Tounrnament Robert was KO'd in the first round.. However, this did nothing in his desire to get back to the State Tourney..

In fact he kept returning to the State Tournament and was State Champion twice either prior or after the 1974 Championship. (I'm not to sure on the exact dates) Robert kept boxing aspiring to one day turn pro. However around 1981. Robert was pulled over in Seguin for a minor traffic violation.. It escalated into a scuffle of several police officers fighting with him and beating him severly. Because of the injuries he suffered.. His boxing career was over...Unfortunatly, he now suffers from extreme memory loss and he recently started showing signs of early dimemtia.
