Why do we need to complicate the status of boxers in the veteran category? If they served, and fit the definition of a veteran, they belong in the category. You are just wasting your time and energy on this subject, when it is not needed; whether it be with putting the medals on the page, or trying to determine whether they served in a combat or non-combat role.

If you think the combat veterans grouping, which is being used to combine veterans of all conflicts should be renamed to something such as "War Veterans", that is different. All of these categories should make sense to someone passing through this site, and not to just you and a few others who have discussed it. *This is the info I have on Levi Forte. First off, I found the program for the Levi Forte/Joe"King"Roman fight which I personally saw myself. I thought the fight was in 1977, but it turns out it was March 17, 1978. The fight was promoted by ''Tastee Concerts Sports'': promotor James P. Keough, matchmaker Rocky Golio, and Coordinator John Ferero. The fight took place at the ''War Memorial Auditorium'' in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The referee was Eddie Eckert, Judges: Mark Kann, Petey Scalzo & for Kickboxing matches the judge was Joe Hess. Timekeeper was Sam Biller, Announcer Evan Carl, and ringside doctors were Charles Bender, Gerry Strauss, and Sam Strom. I was a fan of Forte's and traveled to see him & also Ike Hooks who fought on the card. The card was as follows in order of appearance: 1.) Ken Klingman vs. Larry Zyano (Klingman was listed as 4-0, 3KO, 18 years old, 165lbs./Zyano was billed as 4-0, 4KO, 18, 165. However, Zyano was a no show and he was replaced by Mike Ethridge.) 2.) Chris Lang vs. Willie Lee Allen (no records listed) 3.) Eddie Davis vs. Ike Hooks (Davis was billed as 152lbs. 28 years old, 26-20-4/ Hooks was billed as 25, 151lbs. 22-6, 14 knockouts).

The information provided on the Bio for Ely Uretsky, "Young Maxie Rosenbloom" "Maxie Rosen" was from a newpaper article with a photograph of Uretsky hitting the heavy bag. I can forward the article to you and the information regarding Ross, Canzoneri, Servo, and Jenkins was directly from that article. The rest of the bio was from your website. I have "Young Maxie Rosenbloom's" personal scrapebook with photos of him with several boxers, including Joe Louis at an exhibition fight during WWII. Ely Uretsky was my father, so I am interested in the truth, not bullshit. So if you know for a fact the he never fought Ross, Canzoneri, Servo and Jenkins then I'll have to accept that, and figure that the 1943 newpaper article was not accurate. But are you also saying he never fought Billy Sullivan, Connie Sperling, Sammy Musco, Al LaBarba, or Al Valentine too?

Hi Matt. I'm sure you're right about '''Sailor Liston''' not being Sonny Liston's uncle, however, I based the information on an article I read in the April 1971 Ring Magazine, pages 18-19-36, by Jersey Jones. The article was entitled, LISTON CARRIED MANY SECRETS TO HIS GRAVE.
On page 18, it says, " Mike Parkhurst, who says he handled Charley's fistic and other affairs these last several years, told the Ring that Liston definitely was only 38 years of age, and that his recorded date of birth was May 8, 1932, was correct."
"There is a possibility that Sonny was confused with his boxer cousin ''Sailor Liston'', who fought around 1934, " Parkhurst added.

'''Acelino Freitas''' (born September 21, 1975), is a native of Bahia, Brazil, who is a former world junior lightweight and lightweight champion.

His nickname is ''Popó''. That nickname was given to him by his mother, after the sound that babies make while drinking milk.

Freitas had a difficult childhood, often sleeping in a sandy floor at his house. Since early in his life, he dreamed of a better place to live for his family. A skilled football player, he was more inclined, however, towards the sport of boxing since an early age. [[Brazil]]'s [[Eder Jofre]], who is generally recognized as the greatest world champion to come out of that country, was one of Freitas' childhood heroes.

Freitas turned into a professional boxer on July 14, 1995 against [[Adriano Jose Soares]]. With his win by knockout in the first round that night, Freitas set off a streak of 29 knockout wins in a row, which places as one of the longest knockout wins streak in boxing history. His first 10 wins were against low level competition, but for fight number 11, he took on the much more experienced [[Edwin Vazquez]], knocking him out in the seventh round.

Between 1997 and 1998, Freitas won four more fights and then took on [[Francisco Tomas Da Cruz]], a former world title challenger of [[Julio Cesar Chavez]]. Freitas handled Da Cruz with a knockout in two rounds and then added three more knockout wins before getting his first world title try.

That happened on [August 7, 1999, when he challenged [[WBO]] Jr. Lightweight champion [[Anatoly Alexandrov]]. Freitas became a world champion by knocking Alexandrov out in round one. Soon after, he signed a contract with Cable TV giant Showtime, which began to telecast Freitas' fights to the United States. Freitas then made five defenses of his world title and one non title bout, all of which ended in knockout wins. Then, he went to London, and took only 45 seconds to beat [[Daniel Alicea]] (a former world title challenger of [[Naseem Hamed]]) in another non title affair.

Freitas then beat the former world champion, [[Alfred Kotey]], (brother of ''[[David Kotey]]'') by a decision in ten before deciding to sign for a unification bout with the [[WBA]] world champion, [[Joel Casamayor]], a Cuban refugee who resides in Florida. Freitas dropped Casamayor in round two and went on to add the WBA belt to the WBO one he already had by beating Casamayor by a close but unanimous 12 round decision on January 12 of 2002. Next, he went to Phoenix, Arizona, to fight Nigeria's [[Daniel Attah]], with only the WBO belt on the line. Freitas kept his world title with a 12 round decision on August 3.

Freitas was able to reach his dream of buying his family a better place to live: He has become a national hero in Brazil, one that evokes memories of the idolatry many Brazilians felt for Freitas' childhood hero, Jofre. Because of that, he has become a campaign spokesman of many companies, to add an extra income to what he already earns from his world title fights.

He has been able to buy mansions for his family, and, in addition to that, he built a soccer field in his own mansion, which allows him to practice his second favorite sport.

This avid autograph signer's fame in Brazil has reached such proportions, that when he got married, his wedding was televised live to all of Brazil, and it broke the all time audience record for a live event in Brazil,

Freitas retained the title in Chicago with a fourth round knockout of [[Juan Carlos Ramirez]]. Then, on August 9, [[2003, he and [[Jorge Rodrigo Barrios]] engaged in what Showtime commentator [[Steve Albert]] called a ''candidate for fight of the year''. Freitas was floored in rounds eight and eleven, but retaliated with a knockdown of his own towards the end of the eleventh, and ended up retaining the title by knockout in round twelve.

Freitas' personal life took a downturn that year, however, when he divorced the girl that he married on that televised wedding. Their divorce was very public in Brazil.

Freitas began 2004 by winning a 12 round unanimous decision over [[Artur Grigorian]] on January 4, to become the WBO's world Lightweight champion.

On February 1 of that year, the WBA announced it had named Freitas their 2003 ''Fighter of the Year''.

On August 7, 2004, Freitas lost for the first time, losing his WBO world Lightweight title to [[Diego Corrales]] by a tenth round knockout in Connecticut. Freitas quit the fight in that round after taking a severe beating, and has been scorned in the boxing community because of it.

On April 29, 2006, Freitas won a split decision over [[Zahir Raheem]], to capture the vacant WBO Lightweight title. He announced his retirement from the sport on October 4, 2006. On April 28th 2007, Freitas came back but retired on his stool after the eighth round against [[Juan Diaz]].
