Mitch Green was a former street gang leader who turned to boxing. After having roughly 180 amateur fights (his "official" record was 64-7, 51 KOs) and winning the New York Metropolitan Golden Gloves four times, he was ready to make a run for the gold at the 1980 [[:Category:Olympic Games|Olympic Games]]. Unfortunately the U.S. boycotted the games (held in Moscow that year) and Green turned pro instead. He was one of NBC's "Tomorrow's Champions" and racked up a string of victories before being outpointed by future [[WBC]] champ [[Trevor Berbick]] in a bid for the USBA title.

After a comeback win over [[Percell Davis]] Green signed to face the undefeated [[Mike Tyson]], who was knocking out everyone in his path. When he signed to fight Tyson he was promised a $50,000 payday. But on the day of the weigh-in Green found out he was to receive only $30,000. He was angry, and the condition escalated after he found out that Tyson was going to receive $650,000 for the bout. At the time, Green was ranked #7 by the [[WBC]]. Tyson was unranked. Feeling the difference in pay was unfair, Green said that he was not going to show up for the fight. [[NYSAC]] Commissioner [[Jose Torres]] told Green that if he didn't show up his boxing license would be revoked. Green felt he had no choice but to go through with it.

Before the fight, [[Don King]] (Green's promoter at the time) approached Green in the dressing room and gave him $5,000 in cash. Suddenly, even his reduced purse was gone and he again refused to fight. Once again, Jose Torres told Green his boxing license would be taken away if he didn't fight. A short time later, Green's mother came into the dressing room with a gym bag that contained $25,000 in cash and Green reluctantly went out to face Tyson.

Dispirited that he was being short-changed, Green was lethargic in the fight and lost a unanimous decision, although Tyson was never able to put him down.

Two years later Green and Tyson would meet again. This time on the street in front of Dapper Dan's, an all night clothing boutique in Harlem. Green had heard that Tyson was in the area and went to track him down in hopes of securing a rematch. A scuffle ensued and Tyson threw a right hand that closed Green's eye. Tyson broke his hand in the incident.

In 1997 Green sued Tyson for $25 million for damages sustained in the 1988 street fight. He was awarded just $45,000, as the jury felt he had provoked the incident.

In 2002 Green came out of retirement to fight for the newly-formed [[World Boxing Syndicate]]'s Super-Heavyweight Title. His oppponent was trialhorse [[Danny Wofford]]. Green won a unanimous decision and picked up the belt.

Mitch Green was a four time New York Golden Gloves Champion. Green won the 1976 Sub-Novice Heavyweight Championship and the 1977, 1979 and 1980 Heavyweight Open Championships. Green defeated [[Anthony Zampelli]] to win the 1976 title. In 1977 Green defeated [[Guy Casale]] for the title. In 1979 Green defeated [[Ralph Fucci]] for the Championship and in 1980 Green defeated [[Merlin Castellanos]] for the title. In 1977 he won the heavyweight Intercity Golden Gloves by a KO in round one over Calvin Cross and again in 1978 by a decision over William Hosea. Green trained at the [[United Block Association Gym]] in New York City.He lost to Alfonso Ratliff in the 1980 Intercity Golden Gloves, and also to Marvis Frazier in the 1980 Olympic Trials.Green also lost fights to Tony Tubbs, Greg Page, and Igor Vysotsky.

Green had heard that Tyson was in the area and went to track him down in hopes of securing a rematch. A scuffle ensued and Tyson threw a right hand that closed Green's eye. Tyson broke his hand in the incident.

In 1997 Green sued Tyson for $25 million for damages sustained in the 1988 street fight. He was awarded just $45,000, as the jury felt he had provoked the incident.

Witnessing the human hurricane that was Aaron “The Hawk" Pryor was like seeing Henry Armstrong….and the whirlwind has not been seen since. Pryor’s, frenetic, punch-a-second style endeared him to fans around the globe. To the chants of “Hawk Time, Hawk Time," Pryor brought one thrilling moment after another to the crowds who thronged to see his fights during the 1980s.

Pryor, born in Cincinnati in 1955, was a terror in the amateur ranks (204-16) culminating as an alternate on the 1976 Olympic team. He turned pro in 1976 after the Olympics and quickly tore through the lightweight and junior welterweight ranks, mowing down such seasoned contenders as [[Johnny Summerhays]], [[Johnny Copeland]], [[Norman Goins]], and Alfonso “Peppermint" Frazier. His complete domination of his competition earned him a shot at legendary Colombian champion [[Antonio Cervantes]] in August of 1980. That night in Cincinnati at Riverfront Coliseum, Pryor dismantled Cervantes in four rounds, and a star was born.

Pryor easily moved through the Jr. Welterweight Ranks and in 1982, Pryor and [[Alexis Arguello]] would face off in what was later named the [[Fight of the Decade]] by [[The Ring Magazine]]. Pryor and Arguello engaged in toe-to-toe warfare for 14 rounds before the great Arguello finally succumbed to the equally great Pryor. The rematch, a year later, was much easier for Pryor, and he took out Alexis in ten rounds.

The Hawk defended his title eleven times and retired in 1991 with a 39-1 (35 KOs) record. As the WBA Jr. Welterweight Champ from 1980-1983 and the IBF Jr. Welterweight Champ from 1983-1985, Pryor firmly established his place in boxing history. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1996 and the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 2001. In December 1999 the Associated Press voted Aaron Pryor as the “Greatest Jr. Welterweight of the Century."

Pryor went through some hard times due to drug addiction, but with the determination that made him a great fighter; “The Hawk" kicked his habit and is once again flying high. Pryor lives in his hometown of Cincinnati with his wife, Frankie Pryor, and their four children – Aaron, Jr., Antwan, Stephan, and Elizabeth. Pryor is an ordained deacon at New Friendship Baptist Church and travels the world making personal appearances and spreading his anti-drug message. Pryor remains active in the sport of boxing training both professional and Golden Glove amateur boxers. The Pryor boxing legacy continues today with Aaron, Jr. and Stephan following in their dad’s footsteps.

On December 01, 1984, Page became the WBA Heavyweight Champion with an [[Fight:1454|8th round knockout]] victory over [[Boxer:Gerrie Coetzee:000176|Gerrie Coetzee]] in Sun City, South Africa. He would lose that title five months later, dropping a [[Fight:1585|15 round unanimous decision]] to [[Boxer:Tony Tubbs:000834|Tony Tubbs]] in Buffalo, New York.

On March 09, 2001, in Erlanger, Kentucky, Page was knocked out in the 10th round by [[Boxer:Dale Crowe:007955|Dale Crowe]]. He suffered a traumatic brain injury and a massive stroke, which resulted in permanent paralysis to the left side of his body. The Kentucky Athletic Commission came under extreme criticism for having insufficient ringside medical assistance and no ambulance on site. Reports stated that Page was down for 45 minutes before
finally being taken to the hospital.

He once knocked down Mike Tyson in sparring (before the Tyson-Douglas fight).
