I met Brendan in the early 1970s at his boxing gym at Wincobank in Sheffield. He was always good to the youngsters who turned up and was much liked in the area. Another ex-pro, featherweight Denny Dawson, also attended and you could learn a lot just by watching these two men train.
Of course Brendan trained the great Herol Graham and I was pleased to see that they got back together after a rift in their earlier days. Brendan then had Prince Nazim, and the Prince reached world championship class.
While ever there are men like Brendan, boxing, and youngsters have the solid basics from which to learn to live the right way.
I do believe that Brendan's wife qualified as a referee.
