Although he was a right hander, Freeman fought as a southpaw and had his first 6 scheduled professional fights cancelled by his opposition's managers because of his southpaw style. <br /> <br /> Freeman was an All-ARMY Boxing Champion in 1979 and 1980 at supermiddleweight. He won the 1980 VII Corps Boxing Championships in Weisbaden,Germany and was making a bid for the 1980 Olympic team until he hurt his shoulder in a preliminary fight.
