*1935 made the final of the Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions in the lightweight division, the bout was stopped when examination showed he suffered a broken jaw, with the match being rewarded to [[Mike Gamiere]], afterwards he entered Saint Norbert's College in Wisconsin. Canadeo quit boxing until spring of 1936.

*1936 at Soldier Field he won a bout from [[Tony Marteliano]] in the Intercity CYO meet. He bested [[Tommy Pallatin]], who had just won the [[United States Amateur Lightweight Champions|National AAU]], in the lightweight division.

*1937 Canadeo had won the Press-Gazette's Golden Gloves title by stopping Sailor Bedard in the second round of the final. In the summer before 50,000 fans at Soldier Field, Canadeo was a member of the CYO team that defeated the previously unbeaten South American team, in international competition, he bested Joe Garcia and he represented Chicago at the Intercity Golden Gloves Tournament.

*1938 he won from [[Tony Motisi]], dropped a close decision in the Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions to Richard Pauli. It was reported Canadeo broke his hand in the bout.

*1939 he won the [[Barney Ross|Barney Ross Trophy]] in the Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions, after being forced out by a cut. In an interview when queried on turning pro, Canadeo's response was "If I intended to make a move at all, I probably should have done it two years ago? adding "But I would like a job, any job with a future, right here in Green Bay". It was reported friends of Canadeo believe that he would prefer the latter course. His record that year was reported as only 14 setbacks in 177 bouts, 7 of them in his early years, when he started at 14 years of age.

*1940 Savey won the [[Chicago Golden Gloves]] Tournament of Champions over [[Morris Corona]] at welterweight. As a member of the Chicago team he won the International Golden Gloves over [[Erik Agren]] of Sweden. In the same year he fought [[Al Tribuani]] 4 times, first in the [[Intercity Golden Gloves]], being awarded the verdict, then fighting 3 five round bouts within 2 weeks, with Tribuani taking the first and third and Canadeo taking the second. The bouts were known for being real crowd pleasing sizzlers, with both fighters having archaic respect for each other.

Briscoe was a top-rated Middleweight contender during the 1970s, unsuccesfully challenging for the World Title on three different occasions.

In his first fight with [[Carlos Monzon]] in Argentina, Briscoe walked away with a draw. He said getting a draw in Argentina is getting a victory in the United States. In his rematch with Monzon for the title, Briscoe badly stunned the champion in the 9th round, but failed to score a knockout. Monzon always respected Briscoe, and when the champion was New York, he gave Briscoe a warm greeting.

Briscoe always wore a ''Jewish Star of David'' on his boxing trunks. Boxing magazines and news reports in the early 1970s, said he was practicing the ''Jewish faith''.

'''George Benton''' was born in 1933, one of eleven children. He grew up in Philadelphia and discovered boxing as a teenager. He turned pro at the age of 16, and became a highly ranked middleweight contender in the early 1960s. Known for his classic boxing skills, he posted wins over the likes of [[Joey Giardello]] and[[ Jimmy Ellis]].

After he defeated Giardello in 1962, Benton thought he would get a title shot, but it never happened. Giardello's manager was well connected and was able to get Giardello a fight with world middleweight champion [[Dick Tiger]]. Giardello's manager was [[Lou Duva]]. "Yeah, I screwed George out of his shot," Duva told ''[[Sports Illustrated]]''. "He didn't even know about it til I told him many years later." Benton never fought for a world title, but he did win the Pennsylvania State middleweight title in 1964.

Benton's boxing career ended when he was shot in 1970. The shooter, known around the neighborhood as Chinaman, had tried to pick up Benton's sister at a bar and Benton's brother knocked him out. Vowing to kill someone from the Benton family, Chinaman shot Benton in the back as he was walking to work. The bullet is still lodged near his spine.

Benton turned his attention to training. He studied under [[Eddie Futch]] and was in [[Joe Frazier]]'s corner for [[Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier (3rd meeting)|The Thrilla in Manilla]]. He also devised the strategy for [[Leon Spinks]]'s [[Muhammad Ali vs. Leon Spinks (1st meeting)|upset]] of [[Muhammad Ali]].

Known for his quiet demeanor, the "Professor" has imparted his boxing knowledge to such fighters as [[Johnny Bumphus]], [[Evander Holyfield]], [[Rocky Lockridge]], [[Mike McCallum]], [[Meldrick Taylor]], and [[Pernell Whitaker]], among others.

For 17 years, Benton worked with Lou Duva and Main Events as the head trainer for many of their fighters. In 1989 and 1990, he received the [[John Condon Award|Futch-Condon Award]] for [[Boxing Writers Association of America Trainer of the Year Award|"Trainer of the Year"]] by the [[Boxing Writers Association of America]].

In 2001, Benton was inducted into the [[International Boxing Hall of Fame]] for his work as a trainer. He was also inducted into the [[World Boxing Hall of Fame]] in 2007.
