He once fought as "Maxie Farber," but should not be confused with the lightweight [[Maxie Farber]], his brother, who fought several years earlier. Mickey Farber did not turn pro late until 1935 or early 1936. (They also had a non-boxing brother, Abe, and sisters, Dora, Mae, and Eva. A sister, Lillian, died during Flu epidemic of 1919.)

He died at Brooklyn, New York, April 28, 1988, and was survived by two daughters, four grandchildren, and two great-grandsons.
