Over 4000 people were in attendance. Only heavyweights were allowed to fight just like on September 21 1955. Hurricane won by slimmest of scores, If Baker had won final round, bout would have been drawn. This fight ended Baker's 13 consecutive winning streak. Jackson scored an upset in this very close bout by taking a split decision from Baker (45-5) who was the number one contender for Marciano's heavyweight title.
At the time, Archie Moore was returned to the rankings as light heavyweight champ by NBA, however, Ring magazine still considered him light heavyweight champ & top heavyweight contender.
A right to the jaw floored Marcune, who barely made it to his feet before the ten count. He was unsteady when he rose, prompting the referee to stop the bout. The two boxers had been trading left hooks in the 8th round, prior to the knockout, with Marcune being hurt by a left hook shortly before being floored. The fight was close in the early rounds, with Marcune using his reach advantage, landing left-right combos, while Berrios scored with hooks. This bout opened the 1956 boxing season.
"The one judge who voted against him may cost young Gene Fullmer a chance for a rematch with Eduardo Lausse of Argentina. While Fullmer seemed to be breezing to a bruising 10 round victory Wednesday night over Rocky Castellani, judge Charlie Bill saw the fight as a Castellani victory. His score was at odds with those of the other judge and referee, both of whom had Fullmer on top by a comfortable margin. The winner of the bout was supposed to get a shot at Lausse. Because Fullmer gained only a split verdict, and because he brought out the tiger in Castellani in a rousing finish, a rematch between those same two seemed more probable. Fullmer, a wildcat who threw punches from everywhere, was at his best when he worked on Castellani's stomach. The Clevelander tried his usual style of grabbing for his opponent, but soon changed the tactic when Fullmer sailed in with the left, then followed with rights over the back." -United Press

It was a very close fight. This bout was first live coast to coast radio & tv broadcast of 1956. Ring named it the second best fight of the year.

A brief clip from this rare fight can be found on youtube. In what Rocky Marciano later described as "the toughest fight of my career" Marciano went toe-to-toe in a vicious war with Vingo that went back and forth, with both fighters throwing furious shots. Marciano landed the harder blows, and finally knocked Vingo out. Vingo, with one defeat on his record, suffered a brain hemorrhage in the ring and was unconscious.

In the precious hours after this fight, Marciano prayed in the church for Vingo during Vingo's desperate fight for life. Miraculously, the badly injured Vingo eventually recovered, but he never fought again. In a remarkable show of character, Marciano later became friends with Vingo, as he did with his other opponents. This spoke for the character of Marciano the man, who had a genuine concern for the well-being of his opponent after the bout.

It was a close fight but Braddock earned the victory as he began dancing around Farr and scoring with his jab in later rounds.<br>

After Braddock beat Farr he became the number two contender for [[Joe Louis]]' heavyweight title, which Braddock lost to Louis a few months earlier. But Braddock knew it was time for him to get out of boxing while he's still on top of the game and hasn't suffered a serious injury yet.

Braddock announced his retirement on February 1st.
