Caro down in round 2
Concepcion deducted a point for a low blow in round 8 (video clearly shows that the punch was to the solar plexus). Caro was given time to recover and the doctor checks Concepcion's left eye and was contemplating on stopping the fight because it was almost shut and that a small cut was bleeding profusely. When the fight resumed, Concepcion lands a vicious combination of powershots that had Caro down for good. KO 8 for Concepcion, halting Caro's 3-KO run.

* Five time Philppine Amateur Champion

Born in Alang-alang Mandaue Rodel Bryan Generalao Mayol braced the hardship of boxing at an early age. He cruised his way in the amateurs capturing five medals as a champion. And long before we knew it, he became an ALA boy named after the Aldeguer Gym which trains world class boxers like Boom boom Bautista and rising phenom Aj Banal. He was first managed by Terry Lee Carter and now by Japanese promoter Yasuo Matsuoka. His first shot of the world title is with Eagle Kyowa Japanese based Thailander wherein the bemedaled Mayol frame dominated the champion for 6 rounds but lost control in the final rounds and was drained out at the end of the fight. He hadn’t slept the night before the fight and he was not in tip top condition suffering from jet lag.

After a year of inactivity he had to bolt out from his manager and find ways to fight because he has a family to feed. Then came Canadian match maker Michael Koncz who gave him a title shot in an under card for the Morales- Diaz match in Chicago.

Once again Mayol proved to everyone that he can mix it up with the champion banging him and almost decking the champ. But he was caught with a picture perfect left hook which sent him to the canvas for the count. It was a very frustrating loss for Mayol. What people didn't know was that Mayol had to undergo hell before that match. First, he had no sparring partner. He only sparred with Filipino Mercidito Gesta which is too much for a 108lb fighter like Mayol (Gesta is 133 lbs). Second is they were basically abandoned by his Japanese Manager. Koncz was just a matchmaker so they basically had look out for their own training. Homer Sayson a famous columnist said that sometimes they only ate once a day and they had to walk from their apartment to the gym. In the end, Mayol was malnourished and was not in good shape when he fought Solis. With the loss, the Philippine Boxing Media basically wrote him off until Manny Pacquiao came to his rescue and bought his contract from his Japanese Manager.

Born in Alang-alang Mandaue (a placed which is just a kilometer away from my home) Rodel Bryan Generalao Mayol braced the hardship of boxing at an early age.
Once again Mayol proved to everyone that he can mix it up with the champion banging him and almost decking the champ. But he was caught up in a picture perfect left hook and sending Rodel into the canvas unable to get up at the count of 10 and Solis retained his belt. It was a very frustrating lost and for Mayol he was glad it was over.

Not everybody knows that Mayol had to undergo a hell like state for that match. First is he had no sparring partner. He only spars with Filipino Mercitoa Gesta which is too much for a 108lb fighter like Mayol (Gesta is 133 lbs). Second is they were abandoned. With the feud he was having with his Japanese manager there was no one who could guide them. Koncz is just a matchmaker so they were basically had to go out of their own survival. Homer Sayson a famous columnist said that sometimes they only eat once a day and they have to walk from their apartment to the gym. Mayol was malnourished and was not in good shape while fighting Ulysses. So we could only imagine the privation he has to go through. But we can’t stop Mayol from doing those things because he has to think about his family imagine not having to fight for about a year. When all is said and done…

Manny Pacquiao came to the rescue and bought Mayol’s contract and automatically became his manager.

Mayol is still in the US but is now in good hands. He even sparred with Bernabe Concepcion a rising boxing star and knocking him out. So we could just imagine if he was in this shape fighting Solis. So guys watch out because Mount Mayol is exploding and nothing can stop him even Yasuo Matsuoka’s contract.

Concepcion has two older brothers who were also professional boxers which became Abe Concepcion’s inspiration for taking up boxing himself. He started boxing at an early age, watching his brothers at first and eventually training with them. He then went into amateur boxing but almost immediately turned professional when he turned 16. With a combination of power despite a lanky frame and solid boxing fundamentals he learned as a kid, Concepcion at 16 was already considered as one of Philippine boxing’s hottest prospects. He fights his best in hostile territory, carving out his most impressive wins outside the country. He won his first title via KO in China against the Chinese hometown hero, and got his two recent belts in the US against rated opposition.

In Concepcion’s first try for a title, he got his first draw as well as his first taste of the canvas, but was able to floor his veteran opponent as well in the early rounds of that fight - Concepcion was only 17 years old then. In that fight, he showed that he can take a punch as well as he can dish them. A year later, he would win the WBC youth super bantamweight title by scoring an impressive unanimous decision win over an erstwhile undefeated opponent, Joksan “El Torito” Hernandez. Concepcion dropped Hernandez in the opening round, hammered him in the second and went on to win a lopsided unanimous decision. An impressed Bob Arum immediately signed Bernabe Concepcion up for TOPRANK. The fact that Concepcion managed to impress Uncle Bob should already be a testament to the kid’s raw talent as Arum, a very good judge of boxing talent, is not that easily impressed.
