Baker was leading contender from 1954 through 1956, he had the better of Coley Wallace as a professional, winning both bouts in 1954, some of his more credible accomplishments may have been a victory vs. future hall of famer [[Jimmy Bivins]] and his two victories against contender [[Nino Valdes]]. After 1957, Baker's popularity slowly diminished and after doing some exhibitions he retired in 1960.
