Rescuing his mother and baby sister from flood waters of Hurricane Katrina and swimming them to safety at the age of 13, Jerrico Walton learned early on that he was a survivor. That character trait has served itself several more times in Jerrico’s life. Just months later, displaced from New Orleans and residing in Beaumont, Texas; Hurricane Rita hit and again Jerrico and his family were left homeless.

A straight-A student and rising football star, Jerrico was not eligible to compete at his new school and turned to the streets, entering a life filled with violence and danger. It was this violence and his mentality of committing it that led to his incarceration for Aggravated Assault. Facing 60 years for avenging the murder of his father, Jerrico took a plea deal in which he served 3 years.

History has a way of repeating itself, and just as Mike Tyson would learn the sport of boxing while serving time in juvenile detention, Jerrico too was introduced to the sport. Upon his release, Jerrico entered the ring as an amateur and excelled, compiling a record of 15-1.

Through natural skill and determination, Jerrico has battled his way to a Texas Welterweight Title. A dedicated New Orleans native, much of what Jerrico does is in honor of his birthplace. He wants the world to know that he is a true New Orleans fighter and the epitome what New Orleans stands for – relentlessness determination with family and community values. Jerrico has dedicated himself to helping troubled youths in the community and is positioning himself to be a positive influence through community outreach projects and public speaking.

Jerrico trains at Main Boxing Gym in Houston, Texas under the tutelage of Coach Bobby Benton. He is managed by Mike James, Joseph Vredevelt, and Forris Washington.
