The Passing of President Wolfe- (Aug 27 2017)

To all members: It is my unfortunate duty to advise you of the passing of Past Middle Atlantic Association of USA BOXING President Anthony “Tony” Wolfe Sr.Tony was a dedicated member of the Middle Atlantic Association and served as President from 1999 to 2013. He was active at every show and assisted in every aspect from weigh-ins to Judging.
He excelled academically in school, but found a passion in boxing by age 15. Although the legal age for boxing was 18,Tony turned pro at the tender age of 16.Even though he was following his boxing passion, he was still able to graduate from High School with high honors, playing basketball and baseball.Tony ultimately competed in 39 professional bouts scoring 11 knockouts, against some of boxing’s best talent.

After High School, he found employment as a Lineman for PP&L (Pennsylvania Power and Light). He was promoted to System Operator, Area Foreman, and ultimately assumed responsibility of the Harrisburg/Hershey Line Sections. To all members: It is my unfortunate duty to advise you of the passing of Past Middle Atlantic Association President Anthony “Tony” Wolfe Sr. Tony was a dedicated member of the Middle Atlantic Association and served as President from 1999 to 2013. He was active at every show and assisted in every aspect from weigh-ins to Judging.
Tony was born on June 30, 1930.He excelled academically in school, but found a passion in boxing by age 15.Although the legal age for boxing was 18,Tony turned pro at the tender age of 16.Even though he was following his boxing passion, he was still able to graduate from High School with high honors, playing basketball and baseball.Tony ultimately competed in 39 professional bouts scoring 11 knockouts, against some of boxing’s best talent.

After High School, he found employment as a Lineman for PP&L (Pennsylvania Power and Light). He was promoted to System Operator, Area Foreman, and ultimately assumed responsibility of the Harrisburg/Hershey Line Sections. He retired in 1995 after an incredible 43 years of outstanding service.Tony has been involved with boxing outside the ring since the 1970’s in numerous roles including 26 years as a word class referee and judge, appearing on national and European TV.

Tony’s dedication to boxing has led to numerous awards, not the least of which being Middle Atlantic Hall of Fame, Nat’l GG Hall of Fame, PA Sports Hall of Fame, and PA GG Hall of Fame.He will be sorely missed for his dedication to the youth and amateur boxers of the Middle Atlantic Association.
:Stepping down from the Ring Wars will allow Brian to work on the newly formed [[Florida Boxing Hall of Fame]], along with pursuing some other opportunities in the T.V. and media relations with the “Sweet Science.” His lasting motto has always been since day one, round one; “Stop it one punch too soon, rather than one punch too late.” We wish him all the best with his endeavors, and look forward to his new book release, “Your Third Man in the Ring” in 2010.
:Brian mentions that, "growing up", his hometown was Springfield, Ohio, the home of Davey Moore, World Featherweight Champion, 1958-1963. "It was in the gym where Davey trained, and my Father help run, Local 402, UAW-CIO-AF of L., that I was first exposed to the "Sweet Science." My dad had me using the hand held stop watch for sparring sessions, sweeping the deck, picking up the tape and handing out the water bottles, etc. Pretty soon, someone put a pair of 16 ounce training gloves on me, and after about 2-3 months of 'Bloody Nose Alley,' I had my first 'Smoker'! It was at a UAW sponsored picnic, out-side ring, a kid named Richard White, and I squared off, for the amusement of the 'drunken' UAW members, before the Good Amateurs and Pros showed off their 'Stuff'. I was so scared, my legs were shaking, like a dog 'crapping razor blades.' It seemed like a 'Lifetime,' but in reality the rounds were probably only 1 1/2, or 2 minutes long. The best part was after the final bell, the crowd tossed change and some paper money onto the ring canvas, as a sign of 'approval' for our 'scrapping'. The 'Bug had Bitten me.'"
