In a minor upset where strange style defeated size and reach, Jose 'El Mangu' Peralta Alejo, a Dominican fighter by way of Passaic, New Jersey, now 4-1, 2 kayos, outpointed
the previously unbeaten Christian Martinez of Bronx, New York, now 4-1, 4 kayos, on the undercard of [[Jorge Diaz]] versus [[Emmanuel Lucero]] at Bally's. Alejo had a strange fighting style in which he frequently went into a defensive crouch all the way to the floor, moving like a duck. Alejo moved up and down, side to side, landing power shots, shorter than Martinez but somehow still scoring with his punches. Martinez appeared confused with his strange opponent. The crowd chanted "Mangu, Mangu!" Alejo's nickname is a Dominican food made from boiled green plantains. In round two, Martinez landed a straight right which staggered Alejo and looked to end it. Surprisingly, bounced back off the ropes at Martinez and countered by sailing through the air with a mixed martial arts flying drop which sent both men to the floor! Alejo was warned, but no disqualification resulted from referee Allan Huggins. Alejo continued moving up and down, side to side, landing power shots. At some point, Alejo grabbed onto Martinez' trunks. Martinez tried to kick Alejo to get him to let go, and both fighters tumbled to the canvas, ruled not intentional.

In round three, Alejo went wild, moving up and down landing lefts and rights on a shaken Martinez on the ropes, turning his face red. Alejo moved up and down and leaned on Martinez on the inside at times, Martinez still confused and unable to land anything. In the fourth, Martinez, frustrated, was warned for low blows, and was holding behind the head and rabbit punching. Alejo was moving up and down, landing flurries and slipping punches. Martinez had welts above and below his right eye. Martinez tried to jab Alejo, who had a good defense and remained in crouching movements near the floor! In the fifth round, the action had to be stopped after the round started, as ice from the Martinez corner was scattered all over the ring! Referee Allan Huggins tried to kick the ice out of the ring, but there was too much, so the bout continued. Alejo landed a left hand which rocked Martinez. Martinez landed a low blow and lost a point. Alejo began landing head combinations, and Martinez appeared near out of gas. In the sixth round, Martinez' troubles continued as his corner sent him into the ring without his mouthpiece! When the referee stopped the action, his corner had trouble finding it.
