Biography/Career Highlights
Ray Sanchez III was born on January 28, 1983 and raised in the South Valley, of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Ray is the second of three children and he is the only boy. He has two sisters, Alisha and Desiree. Ray is a very family oriented person; he enjoys hanging out at home with family and close friends. As a young child Ray was fascinated with the sport of boxing. He would watch professional boxing with his dad and grandpa's often. It seemed the more he watched it, the more interested he became and the more he wanted to box himself. He talked with his parents Ray Jr. and Lorraine Sanchez, about his newfound love, but his mom strongly disagreed with the idea. It was not that she didn't enjoy the sport herself, but it was much different to have a child involved in the sport, then it was to watch someone else's child box. Once his mom told him "NO", he backed off the idea for a while, but he never forgot about it.At the age of 10, Ray was talking boxing with his dad and another one of his football coaches Brian "Dino" Bartlett," it so happened Dino knew the Two Time World Champion, Danny Romero Jr., another Albuquerque boxer. He took Ray and his dad to the Romero's gym, where he trained for the next seven years. Ray fell in love with the sport more and more and it was at that point Ray made up his mind, this is what he wanted to do, and this was the sport that made him most happy. Ray unlike other 24-year-olds has not led what most of us would refer to as a normal life. While other individuals his age were out at the movies, the mall, or hanging out with their friends, Ray was in the place he refers to as his second home, the gym. The gym is where he has spent many hours training for the long amateur tournaments that he participated in all around the country and most recently working on his professional career. Ray dedicated his life at a very young age to the demanding sport known as boxing.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN THE RING
As an amateur
Ray has had many successes throughout his boxing career as an amateur. The first official fight that Ray fought was for the State Silver Gloves Tournament, the first punch Ray threw in this fight was a stunner, and he dropped his opponent. His opponent finished the round, but did not return for the second round. His success prevailed, and qualified him for the Regional Silver Gloves Tournament. At this point in his young career many knew that he would be a force to be reckoned with for years to come.

As a product of his outstanding performances in his junior amateur division Ray was victorious in several regional and national tournaments in which he earned eleven (11) Regional Titles and nine (9) National Titles. At the Regional Tournament in Norwalk, California, Ray was up against one of the Nation's toughest fighters. It was the Regional Championship where he was heading into battle with Francisco Bojado fighting for a chance to represent Region Eight at the National Silver Gloves Tournament. Ray once again prevailed and advanced to the Nationals. Francisco Bojado has since continued his own professional career and has proved himself at the professional ranks.

The tournament in which Ray was known as a powerhouse was the National Silver Glove Tournament. At the 1998 National Silver Gloves Tournament, Ray fought one of his most exciting championship fights in the Junior Division as an amateur. Ray was up against Juan Diaz of Texas, who is now a world champion and has proved himself at the professional ranks. Ray prevailed in this championship fight and victory was his name, claiming his 4th National Silver Gloves Title. Five of his Nine National Titles were obtained at the National Silver Gloves Tournament. Ray is one of two young men to have ever accomplished this in the history of the Silver Glove Tournament, the other young man being Ricardo Williams, who prevailed in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia with a silver medal. Another prestigious Tournament Ray participated in was the PAL Nationals. Ray obtained two National titles at this tournament. For one of his two PAL National Titles he was awarded Outstanding Boxer of the Tournament for his second title. In addition to these Ray also won a Junior Golden Glove National Title and One Blue and Gold National Title. All which are recognized as being the best tournaments for boxers in the Junior Division.

At the age of sixteen, Ray was ready for a much bigger challenge. He was ready to fight in the open division for the National Titles, which would qualify him for the Olympic Trials. In order to do this; Ray would first have to get permission from the USA Boxing board because of his age. The rules state that participants must be seventeen years of age in order to participate in these National Tournaments in the Open Division. The board of USA Boxing approved of Ray's participation in the Olympic qualifying tournaments because Ray would be seventeen in time for the Olympics.

At the age of sixteen, Ray's first open tournament was for the PAL National Tournament, which would qualify Ray for the Olympic Trials if he were victorious. Ray indeed was victorious for his three open fights of the tournament. His victories put him into the quarterfinals against Marshall Martinez. Ray lost a controversial 3-2 split decision to Marshall Martinez, who later became the US Olympian. Ray's next qualifying tournament was the U.S. Regional Championships where Ray lost in the finals to Anthony Mora, in yet another controversial 3-2 split decision. Ray also took home a bronze medal in the 2000 Western Olympic Trials, loosing to David Jackson. David Jackson was the alternate Olympian who later took Marshall Martinez's place on the Olympic Team when Marshall Martinez dropped out for personal reasons.
Ray has been recognized numerous times but it was an honor for him to be named Most Outstanding Boxer of New Mexico for the years of 1995-1996, 1997-1998, and 1999-2000. Ray's overall standing record as an amateur is 86 wins, 8 loses and 45 stoppages. Overall Ray accomplished 9 National Titles . . . 5 Silver Gloves National Titles, 2 PAL National Titles, 1 Junior Golden Glove, and 1 Blue & The Gold Tournament. Ray also won the Gene Lewis National Invitational Tournament in Mesa, AZ.

As a Professional
On March 17, 2001, Ray made his Professional Debut in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the Convention Center Downtown on the Johnny Tapia vs. Famasito Gomez under card. His debut was a huge success, knocking out his opponent Rafael Labecena in 1:44 into the first round.

On November 11, 2001, Ray fought his second fight making his America Presents debut on the Hector Camacho Jr./David Reid Under card on Fox Sports Net in Belterra, Indiana. Ray took on Dion Walker (2-2, 1KO) of Cincinnati, Ohio. Ray's performance was outstanding, scoring an impressive 2nd Round KO over Dion Walker. In fact, it took some time to revive Walker, who was taken out on a stretcher and to a local hospital for precautionary tests

On December 19, 2001, Ray stepped into the ring for a third time on the David Tua Under card on HDTV Net, in Sacramento, California. Ray was taking on Jose Lopez (7-3) of Mexico. This was yet another quick payday for Sanchez, who retired Lopez after the first. Victory by TKO was the outcome of a bout that Sanchez wasted no time in taking control.

On May 25, 2002, Ray stepped back into the ring after a layoff due to his promoter's financial problems. Ray, back now under Cedric Kushner Promotions (CKP), who bought Ray's contract out from America Presents. He stepped back into the ring at the Las Vegas Hilton in Las Vegas, Nevada, ready to take on Elvesto Mills (8-16) of Grand Rapids, MI, under all the Las Vegas lights. Mills, had a lopsided recorded however, he was able to go the distance with Vernon Forrest, who was the current Welterweight Champion of the World. Ray was determined to show his new promoter what he had. Ray had yet another outstanding performance, turning heads in Las Vegas, Ray sent Mills down to the canvas in 1:10 of the 1st round.

On June 28, 2002, Ray stepped back into the ring for the fifth time on a Richard Steele Promotion for ESPN Friday Night Fights, a televised event at the Santa Ana Star Casino, on the Santa Ana Pueblo, in Bernalillo, New Mexico. His introduction by the announcer was billed as the "The new Pride of Albuquerque". His opponent was Tyree Tidwell (0-1) of Denver, Co. Before a very emotional and supportive crowd of 1,900 devoted fans, Ray took care of his opponent in twenty-seven seconds of the first round with a straight left hand punch.

On August 17, 2002, Ray back in the ring once again on a Richard Steele Promotion in association with Santa Ana Star Casino, on the Santa Ana Pueblo, in Bernalillo, New Mexico, for a fight card he was co-headlining. It was defiantly "Summer Thunder" as Ray demolished Shad Howard (8-3) of Jefferson City, Missouri in 1:48 of the first round driving the sold out crowd of 3000 plus passionate fight fans absolutely nuts. This was the first sold out crowd in the history of boxing events at the Santa Ana Star Casino.

On September 6, 2002, Ray now (6-0) 6KO's was quickly back in the ring after his last fight. Overcoming some family crises within the three-week break he had in between his last fight. Ray lost his Aunt Adele and Great-Grandfather Ben Tapia just days apart. Ray scheduled to take on Luis Alonzo-Guana (4-1) of Mexico on the Johnny Tapia under card at the Santa Ana Star Casino, on the Santa Ana Pueblo, in Bernalillo, New Mexico, which he was scheduled to be the co-main event. A few weeks before the fight Ray was informed that Johnny was off the card due to an injury he had sustained over the weekend. Ray had doubts if he was emotionally ready for the fight considering that he and his family had been through so much, and if he was ready for the challenge of pleasing a crowd of who were expecting to see a Five-Time World Champion fight as the main event. But being as dedicated as he is to his sport and to his fans he decided to turn this turmoil into a something positive. Ray dedicated this fight to the memory of his loved ones lost. With the emotional roller coaster he was on, this proved to be the biggest test for Sanchez yet. With a crowd of 2,800 fans, his Mexican foe was able to achieve what six others could not do?and that was go the distance with the young powerhouse prospect. Alonzo-Gauna took everything Sanchez III threw at him. The first round was a shocker. We expected to see the obvious: Ray moving within range, loading up on his first or second combination, and flooring his opponent with his devastating straight left hand. However that was not the case this time around. Alonzo-Guana shocked all by catching Ray with what some call a "lucky punch" in the 1st round. Whatever it may have been, Ray was able to show us that he can adapt and take care of business. Ray upped his pace in the 3rd, double-jabbing and backing Alonzo-Gauna up against the ropes where, at one point, he bashed the Mexican's nose in, audibly breaking it, with a damaging right hand. Alonzo-Gauna's nose was a bloody mess, but he kept on fighting through the 4th and 5th. It was Sanchez's fight now. He was using angles, pounding away at Alonzo-Gauna and giving him all he could handle. This was the first time as a professional that Ray went the distance passing all the tests that the critics may have had with a unanimous decision which boosts his record to (7-0) 6K.O's.

On November 16, 2002, Ray was back in Las Vegas, Nevada where he took on Richard Best of Ft. Worth, TXon the Pay Pre View under card of Paulie Ayala vs. Erik Morales "Never Surrender" showdown. In an exciting fight hosted at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada Sanchez III caught Best early in the fight with an over-hand left which had him hurt. Sanchez's left hand put Best in survival mode for the rest of the fight, keeping his distance and able to go the entire distance of the fight. Sanchez III was once again victorious in his Mandalay Bay debut.

On November 29, 2002, Sanchez III was to take on Juan Mendez of Juarez, Mexico in El Paso, TX on the Telefutura televised under card IBF Flyweight Championship of Irene Pacheco v. Alejandro Montiel on Thanksgiving weekend.Sanchez III was back in action just 13 days after his fight in Las Vegas, NV leaving little time to recuperate and prepare for his next battle. Unfortunately fighting so quickly took its toll on Sanchez III physically and he was unable to perform as he usually does. As a result Sanchez was forced to drop his perfect record.

On August 9, 2003, Headlining what was billed as The Homecoming, Ray III returned to the ring at his alma mater after an eight-month layoff, making his welterweight debut he was to take on Richard Ueding (6-7 3 KO's) of Austin, TX. In what was a long anticipated return Sanchez III dispatched his opponent with a 3rd round KO in front of 2,000 screaming fans at Rio Grande High School in Albuquerque, NM. With this much-needed win, Sanchez III is back on track and back on the road to a world championship.

On April 10, 2004, climbing his way to the top Sanchez III was fighting at the Albuquerque Convention Center on a card billed "Pride of Albuquerque" where his quest for a World Title as a professional began. Taking on a very tough Richard Conchas of Wheatridge, CO, it was all at stake and in front of 2,200 Sanchez III fans passionately cheering on their young hometown hero, bam it was over in 2:47 of the first round. Sanchez III was doing something that not even Christian Bejarano, the bronze medalist of the 2000 Olympics could do, and that was knockout Conchas. With this win Sanchez III's career is moving forward.

On May 28, 2004, it was "Back to Business" for Sanchez III at Santa Ana Star Casino in Bernalillo, NM, back at the casino where he was once the house fighter, he was back to battle for a minor title, The WBC Latino Title. His foe was James Johnson (16-10-2) of Shreveport, LA. This was a huge step up for Sanchez III, not going the distance in many of his professional fights; he was jumping up to a 10 round championship fight. This was the first time he was scheduled to fight 10 rounds. This was a huge test for the young prospect but, it didn't seem to take him long to do what he set out to do. He KO'd Johnson at the end of the 3rd round claiming victory and being crowned the new WBC Latino Champion.

On September 25, 2004 Ray was given the opportunity to headline another card at the Albuquerque Convention Center's Kiva Auditorium in front of his beloved hometown. It was "Latin Action" and all was up for grabs, including Sanchez III's WBC Latino Title along with the chance to win the vacant WBC Youth World Title in the Welterweight Division. Ray took on Mike Dobbs (9-11, 7KO's) of Oklahoma City, OK. With Victory in the shadows, Sanchez III took Dobbs out in the 1st round with a devastating liver shot which sent his foe straight to the canvas, allowing Ray to claim victory to his second WBC title.

On November 12, 2004 Troy Wilson (5-0-1) of Atlanta GA by way of Guyana In the final bout of the evening, Ray Sanchez III wowed his fans by putting on a clinic and knocking down his opponent in the 10th round of the WBC World Youth Welterweight title defense. Looking strong and sharp in his first ten-round distance fight and winning a lop-sided unanimous decision over Guyana/Atlanta fighter Troy Wilson. Ray said, "I felt good the whole way. I proved I can go ten rounds and stay on my toes. It was just a matter of time before I could land a clean left hand. Once anybody in this welterweight division gets hit by my straight left, they're gonna get hurt."

On December 9, 2005, Ray III took on Arthur Medina (12-16) of Fort Collins, CO at Tingley Coliseum, Albuquerque, NM on a Top Rank Card originally slated to showcase former world champion Johnny Tapia. Sanchez III's opponent was a game 28-bout veteran Art Medina (now 12-17, 5 KOs) of Denver. Medina tried to make up for firepower and chin with heart, but in three-plus rounds, it was over. Ray was successful in this fight as he climbs his way up the ladder in hopes of capturing a world title in the near future.

On January 6, 2006 Ray was back at Santa Ana Star Casino co-promoted by Top Rank, slated to take on Brad Jensen (14-16-3) of Estes Park, CO. In the main event of the evening, before a frenzied crowd on their feet, Albuquerque's Ray Sanchez III (15-1, 11 KOs) was forced to go the distance against Bad Jensen (14-17-3, 5 KOs). Sanchez, recently stricken with the flu, looked the part of a fighter fallen ill, as he moved and threw cautiously, and lacked the killer instinct shown throughout most of his previous bouts. Still, he won nearly every round and gave the match the look of a sparring session.

On March 31, 2006, Sanchez III took on Carlos Horacio Nevarez (11-15-1) of Denver, CO at Edgewater Hotel & Casino, Laughlin, NV Sanchez was victorious as he brought back a win to Albuquerque. Ray improved his record to (16-1, 12 KOs) with a win by way of knockout in the 2nd round.

On June 23, 2006, Ray took on veteran Steve Verdin (6-29-2) of Houma, LA at the Palo Duro Golf Club, in Nogales, AZ. Albuquerque's welterweight prospect Ray Sanchez III displayed his power by Knocking out Steve Verdin at 2:11 of the 4th round. Verdin was down in the 1st, 2nd & 4th rounds for a total of 5 times. Ray was concerned for his opponent. Although that is the nature of the sport, he never wants to see his foes seriously injured.

On September 1, 2006, Labor Day weekend Sanchez III took on Rob Adamson of Ottumwa, Iowa (9-0-1) in Albuquerque, NM at Route 66 Casino on a Telefutura televised event. Sanchez III gives Adamson his licks?at Route 66. Albuquerque's Ray Sanchez III newly signed with Top Rank wasted no time in the co-main event against Robbie Lee Adamson of Ottumwa, Iowa. With his very first power punch, a straight left sent Adamson to the canvas. When the fight resumed, an even harder straight left from the aggressive Sanchez had Adamson reeling around the ring like a drunken sailor on his way to the canvas once again. Adamson was up at nine and-a-half, but Referee Russ Mora took one look in his eyes and stopped the fight at 2:58. With the victory Sanchez, improved to18-1 (14 KOs), "He had a strong punch and landed a couple good punches," Sanchez admitted. "But I'm in tremendous shape and could take em." Sanchez recently signed a three-year deal with Top Rank. "Top Rank has big things lined up for me," said Sanchez. "A fight against Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. is in the works. There's no better welterweight for me to fight and there's no date yet, but it'll be at the Pit. It's my hometown here, but Chavez is well known and will have a lot of support"

PRESENT AND FUTURE ENDEAVORS
Ray plans for a long, prosperous career as a professional boxer. His goals as a professional include obtaining minor titles, with the hopes of obtaining World Titles and defending them for years to come.

Manny Pacquiao, sometimes known simply as "Pac Man," began his career in 1995, at age 16. He won his first couple of fights, before bumping into Rustico Torrecampo, who scored a third-round KO over Pacquiao. Pacquiao went forward with his career, before fighting Chokchai Chockvivat for the OPBF flyweight title. A few fights later in December of 1998, Pacquiao fought WBC flyweight champion Chatchai Sasakul. The bout was very even, the champion being elusive and a good counter puncher. Pacquiao won by KO in round eight, after which Sasakul did not get up for a few minutes. Pacquiao's next noteworthy assignment came when he fought Lehlohonolo Ledwaba for the IBF 122 lb title. Pacquiao came as a late sub on a few weeks notice and dominated the fight, knocking out the champ in six rounds. Pacquiao made a string of IBF title defenses before moving up in weight and fighting Marco Antonio Barrera. Pacquiao boxed well and his southpaw style seemed to be troubling Barrera. Pacquiao knocked down Barrera three times in this fight. Next Pacquiao fought Juan Manuel Marquez. Marquez was down three times in the first round. However, Marquez did come back to win many of the latter rounds and secure a draw. Pacquiao was then signed for a match with Erik Morales, at 130 pounds after a rematch with Marquez never materialized, because of Marquez demanding far too much money. In a candidate for Fight of the Year, Morales won a slim decision against Pacquiao, winning on all three judges scorecards by scores of 115-113.

He came back from the Morales defeat to knockout Hector Velazquez in six rounds. In January 2006, Pacquiao scored one of the biggest victories of his career, when he stopped Erik Morales in the 10th round of their rematch, the first stoppage loss of Morales career.

Pacquiao is extraordinarily popular in the Philippines, where he is currently the most popular athlete in his country. Pacquiao has branched into acting in Filipino movies and various business ventures as well, including a number of commercial endorsements, seen almost everyday on local TV. Pacquiao carried his country's flag at the opening ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympic games.
Pascal became the Canadian amateur champion seven times (1998-2004). In 2001 he joined the national boxing team. Three times he was named the best Canadian boxer (2001-2003).
Jean Pascal was born in Port-au-Prince (Haiti). In the late 1980s his family moved to Quebec, Canada. In school he played ice hockey and soccer, but--watching his older brother Nicholson Poulard become the Quebec boxing champion in 1996--Pascal, at 13 years of age, started to visit boxing gym "Club Champions St-Michel" once or twice every week. His first trainer was Sylvain Gagnon, who considered Pascal to be very talented. (According to an interview in May 2005, Pascal's idol was Roy Jones Jr..) Pascal became the Canadian amateur champion seven times (1998-2004). In 2001 he joined the national boxing team. Three times he was named the best Canadian boxer (2001-2003). His final amateur record was 103-18.
