Khan faced Irishman Oisin Fagan in his return fight after losing by knockout to Breidis Prescott.

Fagan who is known for his toughness and iron-chin, opened the fight with some nice overhand rights and Khan then began to show his class with excellent movement and hand speed.

Khan then put Fagan to the floor midway through the first round. Fagan suffered a broken ankle when it fell awkwardly from this knock down. Fagan fought on but the off balance fighter was again floored in the closing seconds of the round.

The second round began with Khan again applying pressure and the fight was stopped after one minute and 37 seconds of the second round when Fagan's corner threw in the towel.

Fagan later stated "first of all I don't want to take anything away from Amir Khan - he's an exceptional fighter and a lovely kid and looked very sharp in there, but truth be known, that when I went down the first time, in the first round, I broke my ankle".
Jim Rock aka The Pink Panther (born 12 March 1972 in Dublin, Ireland) is a professional boxer and IBC Middleweight Title and Irish Super Middleweight champion. Rock usually fights at middleweight or the divisions either side.

Background
Rock was born into a large family in the Blanchardstown area of west Dublin in 1972. Rock is a brother of Irish hip-hop artist Ste V Roc and a cousin of former Irish welterweight champion Robbie Murray.

Out of the ring, Rock is a successful businessman and entrepreneur and runs a car dealership in Dublin, dealing in high class motor vehicles such as Mercedes, Ferrari and BMW. Rock fights for the love of the sport and has been known to denote the earnings from fights to charity.

In 2003, Rock trained Irish-American actor Matthew McConaughey in preparation for his role in the film Reign of Fire.

In March 2007, Rock fought a five round exhibition fight in Dublin against former Olympic champion Michael Carruth.

Along with Mick Dowling, Rock is a co-presenter of RTE's boxing broadcasts.

Career
Rock boxed as an amateur before turning professional in November 1995, winning his first fight at the Point Depot in Dublin, in which Rock beat previously unbeaten Craig Lynch on an undercard that included Steve Collins and Eamonn Magee.

Rock is a vetran of the Dublin professional fight scene however he fights out of the Breen Gym in Belfast. Rock is a former WAA Inter-Continental European Super Middleweight Title, IBC Middleweight Title, WBF Continental European Light Middleweight Title, Irish Light Middleweight Title and Irish Super Middleweight Title holder and current Irish Middleweight Title holder. However, agrueable his biggest fight to date was against Margate based Iranian, Mehrdud "Takaloo" Takalobigashi for the WBU Light Middleweight Title which took place in Belfast's Odyssey Arena in February 2003. Rock lost this keenly contested fight to an explosive over hand right knock out defeat in the ninth round.

Brian Peters
Rock currently fights on Brian Peters promotions which are broadcast on Irish station RTE and is unbeaten since 2003. Derry fighter John Duddy has displayed interest in taking on Dubliner for the Irish middleweight title. Duddy's management attended Rock's June 3, 2006 fight against Kevin Phelan in Dublin, a seventh round TKO victory for Rock. The fight was initially scheduled for September 29, 2006 at Madison Square Garden, but has then postponed, for a November 2006 bout in Dublin, Ireland which again did not materialise.

The Irish Amateur Boxing Association (IABA) is the governing body of amateur boxing in Ireland. It was founded in 1911 following a meeting in Dublin.

Structure
The IABA organises amateur boxing on an All Ireland basis in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, with each of the four provinces having their own council and additional councils for County Dublin and County Antrim.

National Stadium
In 1937, the IABA proposed to construct a stadium solely for the purposes of boxing. The National Boxing Stadium was the first purpose built boxing stadium in the world and was opened by Frank Aiken in 1939.

The stadium is still owned by the association and has been used by the IABA for over 60 years as the venue of their national and international contests.

Olympic performance
Irish boxers have won nine medals at the Olympic Games. Ireland has won more medals in boxing than in any other Olympic sport. Michael Carruth won Ireland's only gold medal in boxing in the welterweight class at the 1992 Summer Olympics.

Matthew Macklin (born 14 May 1982 in Birmingham, England) is a professional boxer of Irish extraction, his father being from County Roscommon and his mother from County Tipperary. Macklin usually fights at light middleweight or the divisions either side.

Background
Macklin and his brother Seamus, who is also a boxer, spent much of his youth in his grandparents native County Tipperary (his mother was born in Birmingham UK) and it was there that he learnt to play Ireland's national sport hurling. Macklin became a talented hurling player in his own right and represented County Tipperary, a leading team in Irish hurling, at all age levels up to Under 21 inter county level. Macklin is still a close friend of leading Hurler Eoin Kelly. To compound the hurling connection , Macklins father came from Four Roads , one of the few areas in Co. Roscommon where hurling is the no. 1 sport and he often cites this as a major influence on his interest in the game.

Macklin still attend's hurling events such as the Poc fada or when The Premier County are playing.

In 2001, Macklin won the English Senior ABA Welterweight title at the age of 18 whilst studying law at Coventry University, with a victory against veteran Justin Turley.

Professional career
Debut fight
Macklin left the amateur ranks and turned professional in September 2001, winning his first fight at the Bellahouston Sports Centre, Glasgow, Scotland, in which Macklin beat previously undefeated Ram Singh from Wisbech in a first round knockout on a card which included Scottish fighters Scott Harrison, Alex Arthur and Willie Limond.

Macklin is trained by Floyd Mayweather Sr and is promoted by Irishman Brian Peters. Macklin is a former Irish Middleweight Title holder.

The Jamie Moore barnstormer
In September 2006, Macklin was involved in his highest profile fight when he was defeated in a fight of the year contender bout against Manchester's Jamie Moore for the British Light Middleweight Title which took place at the George Carnell Leisure Centre, Davyhulme, Manchester, England.

Potential Duddy fight
There has been speculation of a potential Irish title fight against New York based Derry native John Duddy. In the summer of 2006 Macklin made a guest appearance in Dublin to hand over the Irish middleweight title to fellow stablemate Dubliner Jim Rock.

At post fight press conference John Duddy's matchmaker Jim Borzell stated to Macklin that if he won "the European title then maybe you'll have something John wants." Macklin then replied, "Maybe I have something for him he doesn't want!".

Brian Peters
Rock currently fights on Brian Peters promotions which are broadcast on Irish station RTÉ and is unbeaten since 2003.
Magee based his boxing career from his Welsh base and after his professional career was over he continued to train young boxers and the Towy ABC as well as undertake charity work for the "Get Kids Going" charity. In 2001, Carmarthenshire County Council named Magee their "Volunteer of the Year".

Noel Magee (born 16 December 1965 in Belfast, Northern Ireland) is a former professional boxer and former Commonwealth Light Heavyweight Title holder. Magee fought at Super Middleweight but also fought as a Light Heavyweight and Cruiserweight towards the end of his career.

==Background
Magee grew up in the strongly nationalist Ardoyne area of Belfast and came from a boxing obsessed family. Magee's younger brother Eamonn stated that for his mother "boxing was as important as school". Magee's three brothers were also boxers with two of them, Eamonn and Terry, having careers as professional boxers. His brother, Eamonn, was also a Commonwealth champion.

Amateur career
Magee, like his younger brother Eamonn, boxed to national level for Ireland. The highlight of his short amateur career was in 1985 when, at the age of nineteen, he won the Irish Light Heavyweight Title, defeating a young Steve Collins in the final. Magee again beat Collins later that year in a trial for the international team.

Professional career
Still only 19 years of age, Magee on 22 May 1985, turned professional under the mentorship of Pat Brogan, winning his first fight at the European Sporting Club, Stoke, England, in which Magee knocked out Nigel Prickett.

Title fight defeats
It was four years before he fought for his title fight when he took on fellow Belfastman Sam Storey in November 1989 for the British Super Middleweight Title, however he lost this fight when the referee stopped the fight in the 9th round. After this loss Magee went on a winning streak beating his next seven opponents before he again fought for another this time the British Light Heavyweight Title against Maurice Core in August 1992 but the result was the same, Magee, was stopped in the ninth despite having Core down twice during the fight. Magee's following fight was also a defeat, this time at the hands of Dariusz Michalczewski for the Vacant IBF Inter-Continental Light Heavyweight Title. Magee also lost his challenge for the European (EBU) Light Heavyweight Title against Fabrice Tiozzo.

Commonwealth title victory
After this series of title fight defeat Magee was becoming disillusioned with boxing and had informed his promoter Barney Eastwood that he was considering a changing promoters.

The following week Eastwood lined up a fight with the then unbeaten Commonwealth Light Heavyweight Title holder Garry Delaney. The fight took place in May 1995 at the Festival Hall, Basildon, Essex, England. Magee was a huge underdog with the bookies offering odds of 10/1 for a Magee win. Magee made his superior hand and foot speed tell by winning the fight with a stoppage in the seventh to take the only major title belt in his professional career.

Magee lost his first defense of his title to Nicky Piper and after this Magee lost his will to continue boxing and two years later after a brief two fight comeback including a lose to Darren Corbett for the Irish Cruiserweight Title, Magee retired from boxing.

"The Flurry" Robbie Murray (aka Robert "Casper" Murray) born in Dublin, Ireland is an Irish professional boxer in the welterweight division. Murray has now moved to the welterweight but all of his fights as a professional were fought in the welterweight division.

Background
Murray was born into a large family from Palmerstown, west County Dublin in 1976. Robbie Murray is a cousin of Irish hip-hop artist Ste V Roc and Irish Middleweight champion Jim Rock.

Murray is promoted by Brian Peters and although a native Dubliner, Murray, like his cousin Rock, is trained by Jim Breen and fights out of the Breen Gym in Belfast along with Eamonn Magee and Neil Sinclair.

Murray is also an author who has penned novel.

Amateur career
Murray boxed as an amateur at local, national and represented the Irish national boxing team at an international competition. He also enjoyed victories over Waterford's Neil Gough fellow professional James Moore. After seeing the success of his cousin and after coming through a good experience sparring with "Shamrock" Shea Neary this convinced Murray that he had the skills to become a professional.

Professional career
Debut
Murray then turned professional in November 2001, winning his first fight at the National Boxing Arena in Dublin, in which Murray beat fellow debutant Paul McIlwaine on a card that included Steve Collins and Eamonn Magee.

Both novices showed that they lacked but also showed their grit and determination in this scrappy and untidy bout. In the fourth round Murray cut McIlwaine badly over his left eye and the referee stopped the fight in the following round by the referee giving Murray a stoppage win in his first outting as a professional.

Carlin fight
In February 2003, Murray faced Welsh boxer Dafydd Carlin on the undercard of the Neil Sinclair and Jim Rock v Takaloo bout.

The fight took place over four fiercely contested rounds at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast. Murray got off to a great start when he knocked Carlin to the canvas with a sweeping right hook in the first round and also dominated the second. Carlin came back strongly in the third round to trouble Murray. However, Murray knowing that with the knockdown in the first round Carlin would require a knockdown or knockout of his own to gain a draw or victory covered covered up in the final round to take the win by 38-36 on the scorecards.

The Flurry beats Senior
Murray then travelled train and spar at Frank Maloney's "Fight Factory Gym" in London. Murray returned from his time in London entuised and his trainer, Jim Breen, was sure Murray was ready to step up a level. Murray was to return to the ring on 30 October 2007 to face unbeaten Scottish fighter Ronnie Nailen at the Ulster Hall in Belfast. However, Murray was forced to pull out of the fight due to injury and was replaced by Glenn McClarnon.

Murray's trademark, the reason for which earned him the nickname "the flurry" was his hand speedy and solid punch. He displayed this speed in his furst fight after a gap of over a year in his impressive win over Nottinghams Nigel Senior at the Burlington Hotel in Dublin on 30 May 2004.

Murray began by attacking the head and body. Although Senior appeared to hold and cover Murray showed his speed and wasted few punches connecting flurries to the body. Senior was on the canvas in the second round though the referee, Emile Tiedt, adjudged it a slip. Senior was again on the canvas in the third but this time is was called as a low blow but Murray finally floored Senior legally in round four but Senior picked himself up once more to continue to the final bell and survive this one sided contest to finish which Murray won by 58 points to 56 points to extend his unbeaten run. After the fight Senior acknowledged that Murray was "a good kid, awkward to fight and he's got fast hands".

Ceri Hall fight at the National Stadium
Murray's toughest contest of his career came on 19 February 2005, at the National Boxing Stadium in Dublin against Ceri Hall.

In what had become a familiar pattern Murray commanded the opening of the fight on workrate alone, throwing bunches of punches while Halls individal shots were heavier they were too infrequent.

Murray maintained his busy pace using height and reach advantages in the second round when Hall suddenly caught Murray sending Murray to the floor, for the first time in his career, in a flash knockdown. Despite rising quickly, Murray appeared dazed but by the end of the round Murray had returned to his busy style. In the third round Murray, with blood streaming from his nose, appeared more respectful of Hall's power and Hall seemed to be dictating the pace and tempo of the fight.

At the end of the third round, Murray's trainer, John Breen instructed to increase the workrate, which he duely did taking the forth and fifth on sheer punch volume. In the sixth it was Murray's turn to floor Hall with a right, left combination, which even the tally in terms on knockdowns.

In the final two rounds both fights tired and in the eighth and final round referee David Ervine docked Hall a point for holding. At the end of the fight the Belfast ref scored the bout 77-75 in favour of Murray which again extended his unbeaten record.

Irish title victory
On 14 May 2005, Murray was due to fight Hartlepool's Alan Temple for the vacant Irish Light Welterweight championship National Boxing Stadium in Dublin on the undercard of a Bernard Dunne fight. Murray had wanted to face London based Galway Olympian, Francie Barrett but he stated "I know Francie will want this title but unfortunately negotiations broke down this time....but I know he will not want anyone else to have it".

In any event Murray faced another London based Galwegian the former British Southern Area Lightweight title holder Peter McDonagh for the belt. Murray was a comparative novice in the professional ranks in comparison to McDonagh who was an experienced campaigner having already faced the likes of Peter Buckley, Chilli John and David Burke, whereas Murray had never been past eight rounds.

In the opening rounds Murray dominated McDonagh with a higher workrate and McDonagh appeared content to counter punch. Through the middle round McDonagh began to stand firm against Murray's onslaught of flurries. Murray's high workrate left his defense open at times which McDonagh began to take advantage of.

Towards the latter rounds McDonagh appeared to fade and become ragged, however, Murray's fitness told as he was able to continue his marauding style, pushing forward and making his superior workrate count.

The tenth and final round highlight the desire that both men had to win an Irish title. A fresher looking Murray still seemed to gain the upper hand in the exchanges to finish the fight strongly. Belfast referee Sean Russell scored the fight 98-94 to give Murray the Irish national title.

Murray was then presented with the belt by former professional, Sligonian, Vinny Feeney and then stated "I knew my persistent and aggressive style would catch up with him eventually. He was tough though, he worked hard throughout and it was an eye opener for me and just what I needed at this stage in my career".

Move to welterweight
Murray has only fought intermitantly since debut and a highly anticiptated Irish title fight against US based Irishman Oisin Fagan has been cancelled as Murray has now vacated the Irish title and stated that he is moving up to the welterweight division.

Murray is currently ranked 7th in Irish.boxing.com's rankings of welterweights after up a division, however, as a light welterweight he was ranked number in the Boxing Union of Ireland lists in 2005.
