Amateur Athletic Union
The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) was founded in 1888 and administered amateur boxing (along with most other amateur sports) in the United States until the United States Congress passed the Amateur Sports Act of 1978, which chartered the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and provided for national governing bodies for each Olympic sport.
The Amateur Athletic Union was superseded by the United States Amateur Boxing Federation, now known as USA Boxing. It is the United States' member organization of the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA).
The Amateur Athletic Union Boxing Championships became the United States National Boxing Championships.
