- Stiverne entered as a 3.25-to-1 betting underdog. [2]
- The bout was originally scheduled for January 26th, then postponed to March 2, but Arreola came down with bronchitis and the fight was postponed for the second time. [3]
- It was the first fight for Arreola in 14 months following his opening round knockout of Eric Molina (18-1). Stiverne had not fought in just over a year.
