Newport Johnny Brown beat Johnny Harko by NWS in round 6 of 6

  • Date: 1926-02-09
  • Location: Arena, Portland, Maine, USA

  • Newport Johnny Brown of Cambridge, Mass., received the unanimous newspaper verdict over Johnny Harko, Manchester, N.H., in a rather spectacular six round battle at the Arena A.A.

Brown's terrific punching and his persistence in carrying the fight gave him the verdict despite the fact that at times the agile New Hampshire jumping jack made him miss half a dozen punches in a row greatly to the amusement of the spectators.

Brown chased Harko all around the ring in four of the six rounds and several times staggered his shorter opponent, although Harko was never in distress. Towards the end, Harko began to get Brown's goat by his ducking, dodging, and jabbing tactics and outscored Johnny in the final round after swapping even with him in the fifth.
