"British lightweight champion Dave Charnley, 135 3/4, outpointed Joey Lopes, 134 3/4, of the USA over 10 rounds Tuesday night. It was the finest win of Charnley's career. He had an uphill fight and finished bleeding from his nose and mouth as well as his right eye. Lopes, 5th ranking lightweight had his left eye cut in the 3rd round and another cut opened over his right in the 10th. Charnley, a southpaw, started forcing the fight in the 2nd round after the 1st was even.
