"Maurice Cullen, the British lightweight champion, outpointed Bunny Grant, Jamaican holder of the British Empire title, in a 10 round non-title fight here tonight. Cullen made a shaky start against Grant but settled down to score a well-deserved victory with stylish left-hand punching. Grant made a whirlwind opening, but from the 4th round onwards, Cullen got better and better and Grant more frustrated. Cullen, fast with his hands and even faster with his feet, was still traveling full steam ahead when the end arrived. The accuracy of Cullen's left hand was manifested in a lump over Grant's right eye. Cullen himself collected a slight cut in his cheekbone and wore red marks around his ribs.
