"America's Lloyd Marshall, 131 1/4, knocked out Maurice Cullen, British lightweight champion, in the 9th round of a scheduled 10 rounder at London's World Sporting Club Wednesday night. Marshall, of Newark, N.J., had the Briton down for a brief count in the first 10 seconds. From then on, Cullen, 137, kept on the retreat. The knockout came in 1:35 of the 9th round and was the first in Cullen's career. Cullen took a right and went down for a count of nine. He was back on his feet only a few seconds before Marshall dropped him again with a short right uppercut. Cullen had hoped to challenge Carlos Ortiz for the world title later this year." -Associated Press
