  • Date: 1954-11-06
  • Location: Legion Stadium, Hollywood, California, USA
  • Referee: Charley Randolph 25-30

Escobar appeared to be on his way to an early knockout, when he floored Evatt with a short right to the head, for an eight-count. A few moments later, another right hand floored Evatt for a five-count. Evatt appeared wobbly at the end of the 1st round, as he was hurt again by a series of lefts. Evatt had a good second round, as Esobar let him lead, and land effectively with his left jab. Escobar resumed control in the 3rd through 5th rounds, opening a cut over Evatt's left eye.

Entering the 6th round, Escobar led by five points (30-25) on referee Charley Randolph's corecard. In the early moments of the 6th round, Evatt shot a right hand to Escobar's jaw that sent him down for a six-count. Escobar rose unsteady, and was quickly backed into the ropes. Evatt then pounded away at Escobar who refused to go down. As Escobar's corner began to enter the ring to stop the fight, referee Randolph stepped in and stopped the contest. It took over two minutes to revive the dazed Escobar after the bout.
