"Hector 'Macho' Camacho pounded out a unanimous but unpopular decision Sunday over Irleis 'Cubanito' Perez in a 10-round, nationally televised lightweight bout. After the judges' cards were read, the heavily partisan Perez crowd showered the Phoenix Civic Plaza Convention Center ring with beer, ice and paper cups along with a steady stream of boos. Camacho, the NABF junior lightweight champ, seemed to control the fight's first four rounds before Perez started using his two-inch height and reach advantage. Perez slugged it out with Camacho in rounds five through eight and bloodied the New York native's nose in the 9th. Camacho appeared to be hanging on at the final bell." -Associated Press
