"In a scheduled 10 rounder, British heavyweight John Conteh knocked out Johnny Hudgins of Miami, Fla., in the 3rd. Conteh opened the attack from the first bell with a barrage of straight lefts that drove the American back. Twice Conteh floored Hudgins with body blows for counts of five and nine respectively. The American came back briefly in the 2nd round, but after 1:30 of the 3rd, Conteh exploded a tremendous left hook on the American's jaw and he was down and counted out by referee Roland Dakin. It was almost a minute before Hudgins could be helped to his feet." -United Press International
