Saldivar started strong and survived a late rush by Famechon to lift the title. Not until the 10th round did Famechon open up his own attack, concentrating on the Mexican's puffed right eye. But Saldivar did not retreat and bored in on the champion, connecting with one-two punch combinations to the body and head. There was only one knockdown.
