"Previously unbeaten David Melendez suffered his first setback in 22 outings when a newcomer from Columbia, Rodrigo Valdes, stopped him at 2:08 of the 5th. Melendez's downfall began in the 2nd when he was outslugged in an explosive exchange, and suffered a bloody nose. From then on Valdes made good use of his longer reach to set the Puerto Rican up for the grand finale.
