Paret won the early rounds, with Scott rallying in the 3rd and 4th round. In the 5th round, a right hand from Paret, high on Scott's head, sent him spinning. In order to regain his balance, one of Scott's gloves touched the canvas. Paret would win the 6th, driving Scott to the ropes, where he pounded his body. In the 7th, Scott began to fight effectively away from Paret, hitting him with left hooks to the head and body, as well with right hand shots to the chin. Paret appeared to weaking under these blows in the 7th and 8th rounds. Scott appeared to coast in the 9th round, as Paret took the initiative in the fight. Scott rallied again in the 10th round, trying to take out Paret, who still fought back strongly.
