"Friday night, following his upset decision over the top-ranking welterweight contender Charley Scott in the television 10 rounder at MSG, Benny (Kid) Paret was hollering for a shot at welterweight champion Don Jordan. Scott had won six straight and was clamouring for a shot at Jordan. Now he's hoping to get a return fight with the unranked Cuban. Paret rarely gave Scott a chance to get off. The Cuban stayed on top of the hard-hitting favourite all the way, rarely giving him much punching room." -Associated Press
- Unofficial AP scorecard - 7-3 Paret
- Matchmaker Teddy Brenner stated he would be trying to match Paret up next with either Don Jordan, Jose Torres, Federico Thompson or a rematch with Charley Scott.
Post fight comment
- "No more Scott. Benny beat the No. 1 once, that's enough. We want Don Jordan, title fight if we can, or non-title." -Manuel Alfaro, Paret's manager
