"USBA bantamweight champion Gaby Canizales knocked down unbeaten challenger James Pipps twice in claiming a 6th-round TKO victory in a scheduled 12-round title bout Saturday night. Pipps' trainer, Kenny Weldon, stopped the fight after the 5th-round because Pipps, who weighed in at the limit of 118 pounds, was cut over the right eye and suffered mouth injuries. Canizales, the No. 1 contender, who weighed in at 117 pounds, dropped Pipps with a left uppercut in the 3rd round. A left-right combination to the head, followed by a left hook to the body downed the challenger in the 5th." -Associated Press
