Hiroshi Kobayashi 129 lbs beat Yoshiaki Numata 129 lbs by KO at 1:56 in round 12 of 15

"In the final world championship contest of 1967, Hiroshi Kobayashi, 129, dethroned recently crowned junior lightweight king Yoshiaki Numata, 129 1/2, at 1:56 of the 12th round. The new champion led on the cards of all three officials after 11 rounds. Kobayashi had been a strong contender for many months. He proved his superiority by taking the lead at the start and continuing to hold it. He dropped Numata 4 times. It was Numata's first defense of the title he won from Flash Elorde on June 15th. Numata was stretched on his back and lay that way for several minutes after being counted out. A right to the jaw in the 6th round decked Numata and rights dropped him again twice in the 12th." -Ring Magazine, March 1968 issue

  • This was the first world title fight between 2 Japanese fighters.
