"Luis Molina, San Jose, Calif., completely outclassed Manuel Gonzalez, Houston, Texas, in a 10 round substitute welterweight bout. There were no official knockdowns in the interesting, but one-sided contest, but Gonzalez appeared to touch the canvas with both gloves for an instant in the 9th round as Molina caught him off balance with a right to the head. Gonzalez was cut at the corner of the right eye in the 1st round, a wound that bled throughout the fight, and was nicked at the corner of the left eye in the 7th and was bleeding from the nose in the last three heats. Gonzalez held his own in a couple of rounds with stiff lefts to the face and an occasional sharp combination, but his blows lacked steam and Molina never appeared to be in trouble at any time." -Las Vegas SUN
- Unofficial SUN and UPI scorecards both had it 50-42 for Molina.
- This bout substituted for the rescheduled Lightweight championship contest between Joe Brown and Carlos Ortiz.
