De Oliveira astonished the partisan crowd with his sharp-shooting punches. He also succeeded in coping with Wajima's unorthodox style of low crouch, weaving and bobbing. There were no knockdowns although the two fighters traded hard punches all the way." -United Press International
- Unofficial UPI scorecard - 71-69 de Oliveira
