"World light-middleweight champion Freddie Little of Las Vegas beat ex-European titlist Carmelo Bossi of Italy on a 3rd round TKO Friday night that resulted in a near-riot among a sellout crowd of 8,500. Referee Sandro de Sanctis stopped the fight after 2:10 of the 3rd round because of a cut over Bossi's eye inflicted by one of the few punches thrown in the fight. The announcement brought a shower of fruit, bread, seat cushions and rolled up newspapers raining onto the fighters, handlers and ringsiders. Little and Bossi left carrying chairs over their heads to protect themselves from flying objects. Fans began booing and chanting early in the 1st round when the two men circled cautiously, throwing no punches. The end came so suddenly many spectators thought Little had butted Bossi, but it appeared from ringside that he hit the Italian with a short overhand right." United Press International
